That he is kind-hearted has been demonstrated many times by his leniency with firsts • offenders---boys and girls of tender years who ° had temporarily and carelessly stepped outside the narrow path and committed some deviltry; That his judgement was sound in these cases has invariably been demonstrated by the fad; that these young people have become goo& citizens in their respective communities insteaij : of confirmed criminals, as they might have be- ' come had they been sent to prison.
