The Birthday Social, under the aus pices of theJViiling Workers Society, held at the City Hall on Friday evening last, was, as we predicted it would be, one of tlie finest entertainment's ever held in this village. A few minutes past eight o'clock the large crowd at the tables adjourned to the upper hall, where the literary pro gramme of the evening was announced, and we must confess our inability to half do this part of the entertainment justice. We can see no good reason why we shou'd carry from year to year, hun dreds of subscribers who make no pre tense of [laying the arrears we are so justly entitled to.
