Clawson, addressed the Hoard and thanke.l the members and County Officers for the splendid cooperation that he had received from them during the past yes^r* and stated that the first order of business to come before the meeting was the election of a chairman for the en- Suing year. Supervisor Hale of Nuikla Township addressed the Board and Stated that he desired to place in nominc. tii.n Paul F. Rosenthal, of Algonquin TjOwnship, for Chairman. The iwm.iiatlon was duly seconded by Supervisor Stevens, the Chair t]ien called for further nominations. There being n> further nominations it was regularly moved by Supervisor Ackman and duly seconded by Supervisor Brown that the ntJmination be closed. Motion declare.i unanimously carried, and the Assistant Supervisor from Algonquin Township was declared .to be the unanimous choice of the members for Chairman for the . ensuing year. THe result of the election being «nhounced. the newly elected Chairman ^ was escorted to the Chair by the re.iii- . ing Chairman, N. B. Clawson. Mr. Rosenthal then addressed the Board and thanked the members for the very great and unusual honor-that they, including many veteran members, had bestowed lipon him, and that he did consider it •a' great privilege to sit as Chairman of the Board of Supervisors in a County that enjoys the wonderful financial condition that now exists in '-McHenry . County, especially by arriving at that condition through good sound business methods and not by being- mis»-rlv i:i • the conduct of its affairs, and that he would endeavor to fill the chair in honor to the members of the Board of Supervisors. Supervisor F. E. Beck, of Chemung • Twp., addressed the Board and presented two gavels to-the new-Chairman an'd stated that he desired that the Chair make a choice as to which one lie wanted. He further stated that the! gavels were made from old wood from the home of Abraham Lincoln- at ' Springfield, ' while his father was the custodian of Public Buildings at the State Capitol, during the time that t+ie Lincoln Home was reconditioned many years ago, aiid that in memory of his.- father whrt was a Supr. and a member • of this Board from the year 1SS8 to Dec. 1900 that he would , like to have a fitting inscription placed on the gavel. S.upr. Turner stated that it was his pleasure to sit with Mr. Beck's father on this Board of Supr. back in those . y^ars and moved that the gij^el be .accepted. Said motion was duly seconded ahd declared unanimously carried. The records of the Special March meeting. 1935 were read and ion motion approved. Illinois, have sold their teams ahd bought trucks and requested that they be. allowed to grade the roads using the trucks to pull the graders when necessary at $1.00 per hour. That they could cover twice the mileage per day by this method than by team. We decided tv> let them try out this method a month on the basis to a $65 per month charge to the County. Your Committee recommends the following method of control ol.tlio County expenditures for roads for which the County is responsible for the ensuing year. : At a meeting of this Board of Supervisors. the itoad and Bridge Comnfiuee shall make an estimate of the amount <5f funds, within the'tax levy for that purpose, needed to carry 011 tin* building and maintaining of the roads for wliioh the Countv is responsible, from time to time. if said estimate isjupproved by this Board, it shall be considered as a limit on the authorized expenditures ol the Countv Road and Bridge Committee, over which limit said committee shall not step. Mr. Chairman and lientleinen of the Board of Supervisors:' Your Committee ort County Home and Farm would beg leave to submit the following Report on the matters . before them£ The i>oestion of fresh meat at the Homfis costing the County a large sum/of money each year. Your committee (feels that by installing a cooling sysOem and butchering our own cattle, hogs, calves, etc., that -it ,would be a gresvL'Saving to the County. With thi« m mind your committee has received bids, which we are herewith submitting to your new committee and would recommend that the McHenry County Board authorize your new Home' and Farm Committee to install a cooling system as soon as possible. The following annual report of the County Physician was presented and read and on motion of Supr. Stockwell and duly seconded by Supr. Stevens was approved and ordered placed on file, towit: . April 22. 1935. To the Honorable Board of Supervisors of McHenry County. Gentlemen: I hereby submit to your honorable body a summar'v of my services as your County Physician for the year ending: March 1st, 1935. Permit me, at this time, to extend to this bodv • -my sincere thanks for. the most loval support given me by every member thereof, which I appreciate, and 1 only hope that 1 haVe merited, your approval. 1 love the work? both because - you wish me to serve vou, and the fact, that through you, I am able to give to'those unfortunates, the same care I give to those whose financial condition could call for my best .efforts.' Supr. Stevens stated that in his opinion it was not necessary to have over 3 memliers on said committee and that he w:ould move vthat the chair be instructed to appoint 3 instead ot 5 Said motion was duly seconded by Supr , Harrison and declared unanimously carried. The undersigned Commissioner of Highways of the Town of Seneca, in said County, would respectfully represent .that the bridge at the site known as the Moritj: culvert over a branch of the Kiswaukee River on the public highway that extends northerly and southerly through section 9 in said' Town Is unsafe and too small and needs to be replaced by a new bridge lor which work the Town of Seneca is responsible.
