POTPOURRI Early Fireworka The Chinese, according to authorities, probably manufactured "fireworks" some 5,000 years ago. They knew the secrets of various combinations of saltpeter, charcoal, sulphur and gunpowder, and used them for pyrotechnic display. The manufacture of fireworks has thus been an important industry in China all through its history. Their knowledge of these substances was early applied to firearms. C Western Newspaper Union. Krause pitched and batted his team to a 5 to 4 decision over Green's team last Thursday night in another one of those thrilling exhibitions that are in vogue this year. Green wasnt warmed up the first two innings and his ball was coming in big as a balloon^ All the damage j was done in these innings as Green allowed only three hits and no runs during the remainder of the game. Tonyan smashed a home run to open the game and a regular bombardment followed for two innings. There were nine hits by the Krause bombers in these two frames (some generous scorekeeping admitted).
