Many lesser lights will swim the depths with smaller price tags attached. t McHenry has co-operated with its schools in providing a playground superintendent for the months of June, July and August. His time will be divided between the athletic field at the high school and the public bathing beach. Various games, contests and tournaments will be run off on schedule and visitors are welcome to acquaint themselves With the program if they desire to participate. At the high school, four well-kept tennis courts are in use throughout thp vacation season. Many visitors, who are enthusiastic about this fine sport, avail themselves of the opportunity to keep up on their games. The neat, little city park furnishes amusement and relaxation for many people. An improved softball diamond is used by old and young, Benches, placed in shady spots, afford a fine setting for those who take pleasure in packing a picnic lunch. McHenry, Johnsburg and .pther adjoining towns organize baseball teams each year and find many summer residents following their fortunes on Sunday afternoons. Hot battles sometimes ensue as young athletes strive for victory. Each year a committee organizes speedboat races that attract the speediest little water jumpers in the country. Real thrills result for those who swarm over every available point of vantage near the finish line. Local boat companies are nationally known for the splendid cruisers they put into the water. For those who do not own boats, regular excursions are provided. Boats can also be rented by the day or hour, either for joy riding or fishing purposes. Visitors find modern,: up-to-the minute business places in McHenry anxious to serve their needs'.
