Lynden Smith, Director of the Department of Public Works and Holdings, Springfield. A bronze plaque suitable for placing on the entrance gate and a ten dollar cash prize went to Zion F. Baker, one mile west of McHenry, on Route 20, whose home was adjudged .the most "beautiful in Ave county A second prize of ten dollars went to G. H. Stewart, Harvard, and a five dollar third prize was awarded Otto Voeitz, Marengo Judges of the contest in McHenry fjjunty were Mrs. David T. Smiley, arvard; Mrs. Wm. M. Kelly, Woodgtock. and Mrs. Irwin L. Burger, Woodstock. . Judges are now selecting regional iiinrers from whose ranks State winifers will be chosen for announcement at the Illinois State Fair. In all, 1.800 farmers representing all counties are entered in the Farm Floral Contest. Cash prizes will aggregate $2,600, and the State winner will receive a $100 cash prize in addition to the Governor Henry Horner plaque. • The Farm Floral Contest is designed to supplement the State's roadside development program, which has been carried on for the past four years by tile Division of Highways. Through landscaped roadsides soil erosion is controlled, maintenance costs reduecd and the landscape in general beautified. So far a quarter of the state primary highway system, or 3/KM) Miles, has been so developed. Pierce issued an order quashing the quo warranto petition and also vacating all other orders in the case.
