Now that the hubbub of Christmas has subsided and Junior's new wagon is minus a few wheels, sister's doll a leg or an arm, mother's nylons practically worn out, Pop begins walking around in circles wondering how to dispose of the bills that Santa threw into his lap. To add to his woe there still » another hump ahead. That New Year's Eve party, and, speaking of • Freedom of Oppor- , V„ tanity is an American Heritage. It was this, more than all else, that made America great. We hope that 1945 will offer each of yo&t • j. more abundant means A «ff turning "the Amerl» *. can way" to better ao " r count--that each day will bring you more.., and richer blessings, v.l. PALACE RECREAfftM Green Street f***. * - " - "7 NEW YEAR Hope for Tomorrow Whatever the past year nay have brought, we all look forward hopefully to 1945 as a harbinger of better days ; to come. It is oar hope, too, that in the New Year we will be more than neighbors . . . that we Will become better neighbors. Season's greetings to one and all. E. 6. PETERSON Contractor j New Year's Eve, Jerry Cermak, ' chairman of the entertainment comj mittee of the McCullom Lake Community club, reports that arrangements have been made for a bigger, more stupendous and hilarious New Year's eve party to be held at Horn's Lounge. Tins party is for all residents of McCullom Lake and their guests. Jerry has made elaborate plans to make this a party crammed with surprises and one long to be remembered by all those present. The residents of McCullom Lake, as well as the McCullom Lake Community club are indeed fortunate to have a neighbor as energetic, aggresive and capable as our Jerry Cermak. So, folks, remember the date, Dec. 31, the place, Horn's Lounge. , Just a suggestion from yours truly, leave your cars at home and that guiding light in your window that night. Mr. and Mrs. John Riter and son, Jack, of Chicago braved the wintry blasts and icy pavements just to spend Christmas day at their cottage with their many friends here at McCullom Lake. There, was excitement and thrills galore at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Nordman on Christmas day. At 8 p. m. Fred happened to glance out of the living room window and «i>ied old Joe Stork hovering over his house, so he immediately called >n old reliable Eleanore Schaeffer to rash his missus to tne hospital, but, alas, you guessed it, no gas. So they put their heads together and called a doctor from McHenry who made hurried preparations for Mr. Stork's reception. We have yet to learn how George Baumbeck learned of the drama that was unfolding in the Nordman home but there he was nervously pacing the floor with Fred until the door opened and the doctor informed Fred that he was the father of a 7-pound boy. Could it be that George Baumbeck is in training for a like ordeal soon? To the Nordmans we extend -congratulations on your wonderful Christmas present. - Here is a sure sign "of an early spring. Our Otto Ebert was seen pushing his lawn mower over his hwn Sunday afternoon unmindful of the foot of snow covering it. A terrible misfortune befell Jim Pupik on Christmas eve as he Stepped out of his heme. He sneezed and his choppers dropped into the snow. His immediate efforts to find them Were fruitless so he got the snow shovel into action, and after an hour's diggingCka Itand them.
