There are still quite a few people residing in Lily Lake who have not as yet become members of the Lily Lake Beautifying club for this year. This club depends upon the support given it by the property owners for its existence, so why not take a step forward and join. It would be nice, for a change, to get the cooperation of ALL the people and not juet the same few. My goodness, a variety hour, installation, of officers, cards and bunco, all in one evening. That's what you will be given at the coming event, to be held on September 28 at tin Club Lilymoor. This will he sponsored bv the Teen Age club. Donations of prizes and refreshments will be greatly appreciated by the club* All teen-agers of the community, not is yet members of the teen-age club, are invited to attend our meetings and consider enrolling. We meet every Thursday evening at the Club Lilymoor. On last Thursday afternoon, Doris Johnson entertained the Thursday club. Friday she left for a two weeks' vacation in Buffalo. The club will meet today at the home of Mrs. Orvil Maher. We were all glad to see Fred ~Svoboda, Jr., home oiwa three-day pass last week. On Sunday he returned to Fort Knox. ' We note with interest that the gas [>ipe-line, which was given much pubicity some time back, as one of the ; post-war projects of the Utility Companies in Northern Illinois, is roundjing the curve on the blacktop east of Volo. Maybe in the not too distant future Lily Lakers will have the benefits of gas for home use. • Also, if the North Shore Electric would make use of the right of way running west from the terminal at Mundelein, which it is understood li's stay at tha Mrs. Diek, Imw* at A iMr am Items we omitted befcn aypaar now. WTTTJIt Richmond, Illinois they have owned for several years, maybe Lily Lake would find direct transportation to Chicago right at its back door. Combined with other modes of transit this would really put us on the map. Speaking of ideas of that sort, now would be the time for the people of the south side, as well as other residents of the Lily Lake section, to get together and do something to the channel. The water is now low enough to allow a certain amount oi digging to be done. A picture of relief can be seen when looking into the face of Mother Kerrechek. After two years of worry over the welfare of her two sons in the service, she tan turn to other things, for they are now back home with her. John was in the army for two years and William was in the navy t for eighteen months. They Jftye both returned in the past two weeks. After spending nine years at her Lilymoor home, Mrs. Suchan has sold it and will take a trip to Europe. We are sorry to see you go, Mrs. Suchan, but hope you hav«>«ar most pleasant trip. Next Saturday will find Bill O'Brien and Vic Bassi in fatigue clothes transferring Bill's pump to a 6x6Vi foot pump pit--Good luck, boys, you'll probably need it. School days, school days, that's how the old familiar tune goes, <but after receiving a diploma from grammer and high schools one would think that was enough. Two of our lads from Lily Lake don't think that way though. One is Normand Cooper, a graduate of Senn high school, who will attend Wright Jr. college in Chicago. Norm will major in Commerce, following in his father's footsteps. The other lad is Mrs. Dick's son, Walter (Bud). He is a graduate of Amundsen high and will begin the term at North Park college about the twentieth of this month. "Bud" will major in pre-commerce. Imagine walking into a theatre and seeing some of your ldn on the screen. Well that happened to Bud Dick and myself last Wednesday evening. Bud's Conbrough, a member the Scotch -- Claude Vachet have returned to the lake after spending a short vacation in southern Indiana. Returning with them for a stay at Lily Lake and Chicago were Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Lenahan, sister and brother- in-law of Mr. Vachet. Visiting also at the Vaehet home was Mrs. Vachat'i sister, Mrs. Emma Weber, and son. Bob, of Pittsburg. Bob has just returned from service in tha various tHratres of war and expects to' enter an eastern school. Guest at tha McDermott residence last weak from out of state were, Mrs. MoDarmott's cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Myron Morrison and daughter, Myraa, of Clinton Iowa, also Mrs. McDermott's toother, Joe Paskovich, of Duluth, Minn., who is staying here for a week or so. •Frank Keller's nephew, or should we say right hand man, Chuck, has returned to the life of the big city after' spending bis summer months visiting with nis aunt and uncle. While the fair was on in Elkhorn last week, Lily Lake and Lilymoor were represented by Dave Heckman and wife and Mr. and Mrs. Guy Surtees. Clank, Clank, Clank, now that the flood lights have been installed over the horseshoe courts located in the lower forty belonging to the C. O. Hyatt*, you shouldnTt be surprised to see quite a crowd gathering here on the fall evenings which remain. Now with Friday, the thirteenth, being tomorrow. 111 sign off, leavfn you >H wonder if it will be luck or bad luck for you. WHHMHHlwitlHIIIMO lite On the Bay • i H n i m i i f i i m i i n i n i (By "Cam" Martick«) Don't you think five feet under water in a boat stall on the end of a pier is a strange place for a girl's bicycle? I think so, too--but someone else must've thought it a pretty good storage place. They must've--because this girl's blue Ranger bicycle was found at the above described place about two weeks ago. The pier at the end of which it was found belongs to the Pistakee Bay Woods Improvement Association. If you happen to be missing a bicycle--or if you just want to find out whether or not this story is true --call Pistakee 693-M-l. _ Heard over the radio several days ago that we're due for a "hard winter and a tough spring." I've been wondering since, whether the commentator knew what he was talking about--guess w e'll find out soon enough. Mrs. Mary McNellis celebrated her eightieth anniversary Saturday night when her son, Ort McNellis gave a large party for many friends and relatives of Mrs. McNellis. At a spirited meeting of the Pistakee Bay Woods Improvement Association, held last Sunday in Dr. J. P. Frye's barn lounge, the old officers got their long1 expressed wish, that of retiring ana having new officers elected. At every meeting during the past five years they noped to retire from their offices, but despite their protests Were always unanimously returned to office. Last Sunday, however, they were determined not to be overruled. Mere thanks are not enough for the splendid job done by Dr. James J. Leach as president, Stacy H. Gifford as secretary and Walter L.
