The Spring breakup was the worst in •-•everla years and it will take considerable work and thousands of yards of gravel to restore the roads. We found •leVernl damaeed culverts and bridges and ordered them repaired. We inspected several gravel pits and made arrangements to buy crushed gravel. Due to high water and we think, also to dredge work, the Bielke Bridge on the Wcodstock-Marengo road was found to be In a dangerous condition, as the north wall was being undermined and the water level on the down stream side vas lower than the bottom of the rootlngs. Some old wooden piles and stones left •tnder the bridge seemed to be the onlv hing keeping the bridge from being •cashed out. We were about to have nter-locking steel sheet piles driven across the channel to stin the wsh >vhen the Commissioners of the Ktsbwaukee Special Drainage District No. stated they wished to lower their litch to the level" of the creek Just west >f the bridge. They agreed to pay *250.00 toward' the cost of protecting he bridge. We decided to accept the >ffer and proceeded to drive the steel lies around both abutments at a cost >f $700.00. We were of the oplnon that said sand bar which Is covered with willows should be removed by the Village as the first step in the renalr of the bride-e. This work Is entirely a gillaee affair, and we decided to errant the prayer of the petition provided this work is performed and paid for bv the Village of Spring Grove. We also decided to have Contractor A. H. Frennd drive two piles under the floor beam at the first panel point from the south abutment and cap the piles with p->n *0 hold the southwest corner of 'he bridge In position until such time ts new concrete can be placed at the south end nf the hrldtre and steel sheet -illinr he driven around the footing.
