At this convention, tribute was paid the late Jfrs. Ada Manning, former assistant county superintendent of schools of McHenry county. The following tribute which we quote in part, was written by Mrs. Ethel C. Coe: "Ada McDole Manning, -one of the fourteen founders of Lambda State, Delta Kappa Gama, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Katherine White, in Bassett, Nebr., on March 5, 1948." "Born in DeKalb county, she received her elementary, high school training in the DeKalb schools and the northern Illinois Stfrte Teachers' college. She taught two years in DeKalb county, then married Claude Manning and they established their home in Lombard. Mr. Manning died in 1922. In the following years she spent herself so freely in her -work that her health was effected and the time came when she knew she must take some work which did not require the carrying of so heavy a personal responsibility." "McHenry county was fortunate in being able to offer such a position and in 1939 she became assistant county superintendent of schools. Here she soon won the love and respect of teachers, parents and children as she helped them with their problems. Never dramatic in her work, she simply lived with those with whom she worked, lendng a helping hand here, give suggestions there, recognizing and j approving good work, inspiring to1 more successful efforts where weakness was evident." "She retired in February, 1944, due to ill health and went to Bassett, Nebr., to be with her daughter and her sister. She entered into the life of that community and was valued there." "Those of us who knew her intimately and loved her deeply cannot regret her passing, for the last months of her life brought much physical suffering and that is over; 'but the goodness which her life expressed is eternal. That has not passed away. It is still ours." ILLINOIS LIBRARY WEEK TO BE OBSERVED FROM APRIL 17 TO 23 The week of April 17 will be observed as Illinois Library week by proclamation of Governor Green, Miss Ruth Gregory, president of the Illinois Library Association and librarian of the Waukegan Public Library, has announced. In an effort to correct an existing shortage of more than 1,000 librarians in Illinois, emphasis during the week will be placed on encouraging young people to enter library work as a profession, Miss Gregory said. Miss Gregory said the recruitment committee is developing plans at present to send a mobile unit throughout the state between June 27 and August 14, from which a short, intensive training program in basic library procedures will be given in seven different localities. This course will be open to individ- 4 uals employed in libraries and to persons interested in doing library Work. Baad the Want Ads It's mew!
