He had _a chance for a force Shamrocks, since Hugh Murphy had left for another year at college. The game had all the ear marks of what they call give-away in checkers, but the Johnsburg team gave away too much for their own good in the ninth, topped by a base on balls that forced in Che.winning run. Mike Santoro was a far better pitcher than he was the previous week, allowing only 5 hits, 2 walks and striking out 10 batters. Spotty infield play gave Mike a rough time when the Tigers put over the 4 runs in the fourth inning. True to form the Shamrocks Btarted off with scoring in the first inning. Conway drilled a hit into right field. McCulla grounded to Wally Smith and both runners were safe when Wallys throw to second was off the, bag. Jim Larkin's twoplay at the plate and possibly A .bagger scored both runs. double play from the home plate to first base. Mrs. William Staines and her niece. Miss Mary Stanberry, of Toronto, Canada, spent Thursday in Midlothian with their cousin, Ada Erp. ' V Bead the Want £•-f 3+Tsl.M McHenry picked up another run in the third inning. "Sonny" Miller hit to right and went to second when the ball bounced away from Bud Miller. Jim Larkin's second hit brought in the run. Tigers' Inning Johnsburg, noted for thope explosive innings, put over four runsj in the fourth. A review of events' will tell you how helpful the Shamrock infield wap to the Tiger cause. Santoro fanned Meyers. George Jackson's grounder went through Larkin at short. Bud Miller hit safely to left. On what looked like a made to order double-play ball, Wally1 Smith forced Miller at second and was safe at first on a fielders' choice. Howie Freund walked. Katz was safe when Mc- Cracken failed to come up with his grounder,, allowing two runs to score. With Katz on second and Howie on first, Ted Pitsen pulled his specialty of driving in what looked like the winning runs. Ted was nailed at third when he attempted to advance on a short passed ball. Although the Shamrocks were able to hit Klapperich, he kept things in order until his control went bad In the eighth and ninth innings. Two walks in the eighth gave the tip-off. In this inning, Bud Miller hauled in Conway's long fly for the third out and no runs were scored. Wild Ninth T'hat ninth inning was a wild one if /ou ever saw one. "Sonny" Miller walked. McCulla bunted and Went to second when Klapperich threw wild to first base. Miller |noved to third on the play. With Jim Larkin at bat, Klapperich threw a wild pitch and Miller scored the run that tied up the ball game. At this point, Manager Harry Freund Called in Bud Miller to pitch and, sent Jim Freund to right field. With McCulla-on third with the winning run, and nobody out, Johnsburg decided to walk both Larking to set the stage for a double play at the plate. The strategy Was sound, but Miller couldn't find the plate and walked McCracken to force in the winning run. The deciding game will be played at McHenry next Saturday. McHenry (5) AB R Conway, 2b .6 .1 Miller, lb I The popular sport of bowling is rolling again in the local alleys and the same old appeal is made to secretaries of various leagues to leave completed copies of score sheets at the alleys. Publicity on bowling has become a problem with the Plalndealer as well as many other newspapers, where a large number of scores are turned in. In the old days when only a few teams were bowling, It was possible to print- complete scores. Today that is impossible. Last year the plan was followed to print top individual scores. Now. several sponsors want their names printed. While your sports department would like to print standings and the complete'works, it is impossible to go the limit. All we ask is that you turn in complete information on all score sheets, league names, team names, and total scores. We will do our best to print as much information as time and space will allow you have some special item of terest, make a note of it ang leave it with your score sheets.
