The oommunlty was saddened the past week by the death of Father "Bill" O'Rourke. a great athlete in his younger days and a highly respected coach in his days at St Thomas' of Rockford, Father O'Rourke knew his way around athletic circles. Had he not chosen the priesthood as his life's work, you might have seen his name in big league baseball box-scores. We saw press clippings from eastern papers that told of his ability both on the baseball diamond and cm the football field. Father O'Rourke may have missed the limelight of the big leagues, but his batting average was high in McHeary. There is a bit of local interest in the nomination of William N. Krickson as Repubjican candidate for the office of president of the Board of County Commissioners in Cook County. Mr. Erickson, who enjoys respect as a high class individual in political circles,, is a frequent: visitor to McHenry where he finds relaxation in the liome of his sister and brother- in-law,Mr. and Mrs. G. 8 Andreen at Oakhurst. DAILY PINUPS'- '-" When thjpgs are not quite apropos, try your best to make them so; If you only repeat what others say you can shake hands with the parrot The Word "polities" Is taken from the Greek; to many folks its still Greek. I. Knowall never exittod; I Doall is only a myth. „ The big primary election Is over, with Joy for some and di$- appqintment for others.' Many people refused to vote in the primaries. While voting is a privelege, many voters would like to see It a secret privelege. For fear of offending someone, they refuse to declare themselves. They want to pick their men regardless of party. The present system in Illinois keeps too many people •way from the polls. We know plenty of candidates who ar« good fellows even if they are Republicans- Like Walt Freund's story--"They're Irish, but they're nice people." A crooked path lengthens the dlstan'cfe between your btart and your goal. Pride ahd™~^^H>SM preyent prudence. Self-education has three rules, "Observe! Remember! Compare!" ANONNYMOUS BOWLING NOTES Did you see that box-score last w week covering the Cubs-Dallas ¥ game? That lead-off man for Charlie Grimm's Dallas team was ^ Billy Klaus of Spring Grove. About a week ago a young high school junior, Duane Andreas of Ringwood came to school wearing a ring which bore the initials NNJY. One of his close friends. Bill Weber, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Weber, admired it and asked if. it was new. Duane explained that while digging in the family garden the day before he had uncovered it. Upon mentioning it to a couple of old timers in the, community, he was informed that perhaps the initials were those of Nick Young a former resident in what is now the Andreas home. No one was more surprised than Duane when Bill- Bald, "That's my grandfather," for he was, unaware that the man mentioned to him still resided here. Upon questioning his grandfather, Bill learned that he had lost the ring, a gift, twenty-five years ago when the family resided there, and had never been able to trace it. Eight other families had lived there since bat BO one had ever found it. Police Division 4 To ?
