While this was going on, the Shamrocks were teeing off on the offerings of Jozies to; the tune of 19 safe blows. The Dundee outfielders raced far and wide to haul in the drives in a classy exhibition of defensive play. Jim Larkin hit the ball in his old style and was joined by Miller and McCracken in the 3-hit class. In fact, the entire team showed punch. There was Allan Bockman with 2 for 3. including a two-bagger. "Guv" Bolger caught one of his best games, throwing accurately, hitting timely and handling his position flawlessly. Everybody got into the act. For instance, Jake Larkin fired a relay to the plate that was a beauty. And he got his man! Bill Bolger got in the game late and got two hits. MERCHANTS I 10 TO 5 LOSS TO BOOSTER! Lakers Score Fiv$ Runs In Fourth $iT Put Over Victory The Crystal Lake Boosters came to town last Sunday and boosted their standing with a 10 to 5 victory over the McHenry Merchants baseball team. The Merchants missed a scoring opportunity in the first inning when six men went to bat and none scored. Hits by Perisert and Bob Knox, plus a walk to Howard Knox went to waste. Crystal Lake scored a run In the second on hits by E. Krause and Eibisch. Then McHenry got the idea and evened the score. Eddie Lay, who had quite a workout on the base paths, was safe on Koch's error. Eibisch picked up the ball and fired wild to first allowing Lay to go to second. Further help came in the form of a passed ball to put Lay on third. A hit to right by Peisert brought in the run. Brief Lead Dick Rosing led off the third Inning with a base on balls, stole second moved to third on Tessendorf's wild throw and bcofed after Fanter pulled down H. Knox's hard drive to center. That gave the Merchants a 2-1 lead. But, came the fourth! That's when the visitors put across 5 runs With a bit of help from the Merchants. Scully topped off the inning with a two-base drive to center to drive in two runs. Boosters put over 2 more runs in each the fifth and eighth frames. Marv Wirt*, of Volo and the U. of I., replaced Knigge in the sixth and showed enough staff to bear watching. His control went haywire in the eighth when two runs scored, but he came back In the ninth to set down the sMa on strikes. Plenty On Base The home boys had men on base ta every inning of the ball game, but lacked the punch to pot 'em around. However, tlge boys showed spirit and pnt over 8 runs In the eighth to give the honie crowd a little ray of hope. Peterson led off with a hit to left canter. Olsen drove to right for hfs second hit and Lay drew his second pass. An overthrow of first base by Oehmke and a boot by Nelson helped the McHenry cause. A large crowd was on hand to pull for the Merchants, but weaknesses showed up, as they will on any new team, while the visiting Boosters showed that experience has made their team more form idable than in the past. 0.
