Anyhow, the visiting team came out in the last bait with a lot of fire to outscore the home team- Dick Miller, of the ..visitors, sparked the drive witK 9* points, but fouled out as did Jim Voss. The game was very much on the rou£h side in the last quarter, a final tabulation showing 23 fouls called on the Wisconsin .teiim^ . Following a bountiful meal, the bowlers and their best girls drew up chairs to witness the awarding of prizes and hear the program which was toastmaBtered in able fashion by Fred Meyer. Top winners were the same as announced in last week's Plaindealer. It was Bill Tonyan in the singles, "Honhey" Miller and Dick Rosing in the doubles, the same Miller in all events and Mayor Freund's five in team events. Of course, there were- many ' other prizes all the way down to a 34th place teafn award to Captain Leo Stilling. (There were 34 teams entered). * Stale Officers Attend Adding much to the program were State Chief Ranger, Earl Duf fy. State Secretary Dick Tobin, and Herbert O'Connell, Secretary of the Forester State Bowling Tournament. There was a brief, pause from yte jovial side as the tOastmaster called upon Earl Walsh, Plain-. dealer Sports Editor, to present a trophy in memory of "Uncle"? Ed Smith. Leo Winkel, President of the Forester Bowling League placed the trophy in-the case to take its place as a lasting memory. Then, there was more fun in store. Bill Althoff. State Director had a few words to say and top winners pinned' corsages on their wives and sweethearts One of the highlights of the e v e n iik g was the ap pearance of the Rythmalres of Elgin, who warbled a few tunes 'n the best Barber-8hop fashion. Members of the quartet were Warne Blakman <ten<&). kob t/tft>- ner (lead), Sheldon Lebey (baritone) and Dave Golden (feasd). Dancing and cards concluded a grand evening of entertainment. It will be- interesting to note how fishing fans will take to the new glass rods which will he nniong the exhibits. Glass in rods has made excellent progress, but a goodly number of conventional rod supporters consider the glass rod strictly a gadget. Glass rods will not replace rods of steel and bamboo but it should stir up a number of lively arguments. From his vast library of experience as a fisherman, Kahler passes on these little helpful bits of advice: reels should carry at least 130 yards of line: rods must be strong and powerful, but light in weight; the best lures to use should he sub-surface lures, such as wet flies, plu&s and spinners, and remember, thte average catch is uiade- acfOss^or slightly downstream. The Blue Streaks of Woodstock High came to town Tuesday -night and won a 58 to 42 basketball game from the McHenrjft Warriors in a game that held the interest of spectators in spite of the margin of victory. : With a :6W pltfS' 'aveHrfce from the free throw line, the Streaks gathered 18 points to add to their 20 field goals. The Warrior total showed 17 field goals' while they were missing 15 outv of 23 free throws. Woodstock got off to a 6-0 lead as the game opened. McCulla broke the ice with a pair of free throws and then went on to score 21 points for a game total. Thife was far and away the' best offensive mark ia the game. The first quarter ended Tyith the visitors holding a slight ^dge, 15 to -3. McHenry's attack bogged down in the second quarter as McCnlla's 6 points broufeht McHenry up to 19 at half time against 27 for the Streaks. The Warrior passing took on a ragged tinge during the middle periods, but improved as the game settled down to the final stages. In fact, there were spots in the game when the Warriors set up some nice ohots only to be Vf1o 1 und lacking in marksmanship.' The Streaks had reserves such as Hinner to come in and w.deu the gap and had their victory pretty well in hand after the first quarter scare. • * . * ' . -.f- ;>;.* Woodstock ' ' • Varsity (68) Dermont Roush Led by Baldwin's 18 points,« Coach Pete Roche's Junior v^ariity boys defeated Lake Geneva Si to 24 here last Friday night.
