Township 45 North, Range 8 East of the Third Principal Meridian, beg leave to submit the following report on the matters j before them. Mf. R. T. Cash, District Engineer of the State Division of Highways has viewed the site of said Bridge and talked to the plrfcperU' owners interested in the matter. He could offer no easy solution to the problems involved, except that by repairing the old bridge it might not be neceHsarv to secure the approval of the Department of Waterways. As we see the problem at this time we recommend that the present west abument which is on a pile foundation and built wide enough to accommodate a new steel truss of 22 feet clear width of roadway be utilised, and that a new east abutment be built and also a new steel through truss of 22 foot width strong enough to carry modern truck traffic and having a sidewalk on the south side outside the truss be constructed. The length of the truss to be of sufficient length for a in foot opening between saiS abutments. We have instructed the County Superintendent of Highways to proceed on the above basis, subject to the approval of the State of Illinois Department of Public Works and Buildings. Some parties would prefer that two bridges be built about 350 feet apart. 1/ut we hesitate for the County of McHenry to have anything to do with the second opening which might become the main channel and somebody would in that case become liable to damages for changing the natural water-course. All of which is respectfully mitted. _ FRANK B. McCONNELL FRANK MAY ALMER AAVANG Special Bridge Committee McHenry County, Illinois Supr. Frank B. McConnell, Chairman of this Special Committee, addressed the Board and stated that he and his committee were not positive as to the right way to proceed with this improvement, and that his committee felt that every precaution should be taken before final plans are approved, and that the water flowing at the site of this improvement as now diverted, comes up in two channels. Supr. Schinitt of McHenry Township spoke on the State law governing improvements of this kind, and stated that it was his opinion that one man should not have the power to change a natural water course. Supr. McConnell. Chairman of said Special Committee, again addressed the' Board and stated that a further investigation should be made in his opinion, and that his commit-1 tee should be given additional time. After some further discussion with regard to said matter it was regularly moved by Supr. Filip and duly seconded by Supr. Glenn, that said matter and report be referred back to the committee for further consideration. And the Chairman declared the motion unanimously carried. The Committee on Purchasing presented the following report, to-wlt: Quotations of Burgess, Anderson & Tate, Inc.. and L. J. Zant Office Machines & Equipment Co. attached to this report. May 8th, 1950 To the Chairman and Members of y the Board of Supervisors of McHenry County: The Purchasing Committer, ae- companied by Ray DDuussflllbbeerr ry, Supr. of Assessments and George Jedlicka of the Zoning Board of Appeals were in Waukegan on Monday, May 1st where they visited an office in the Lake County Courthouse, to ascertain the type of office furniture and equipment used and its efficiency. Later they called at the Burgess, Anderson & Tate Co. Inc., at IZion where they obtained a price list of office equipment needed for the office of McHenry County Supr. of Assessment and Zoning Board of Appeals. On May 3rd. the Committee and Mr. Dusenberry called at the ofClce of the L. J. Zant Office Machines and Eqquipment Company at Rockford, Where they obtained a price on the same amount of ofTice equipment. In both cases the price quoted was on "Shaw - Walker" equipment. In the Committee's estimation, tiie equipment from the later Company (L. J. Zant) will furnish more counter space. Your Committee, would therefore recommend that the quotation of the L. J. Zan OfTice Machines & Equipment Company of Rockford. 111., 111 the amount of $968.45 be accepted and that purchase be made and ..hat the equipment as stated in the quotation be paid for by McHenry County upon delivery and acceptance by the Committee. Filed herewith and made a part of this report are the price list referred to. All of which is respectively submitted. AUG. w. RUTH. Chairman R. M. SLAVIN F. E.
