If you like medals, you might enter , annual American Legion state-wide essay contest which opened April 7 and will close May 19. All you have to do is write on some phase of the Illinois State Constitution, hand it in to Mr. Buckner and hope you win a medal. Another thing, your essay must not exceed 1,000 words and you must be a bonafide high school student. The best essay from this school will be sent to %xe district; there , are. twentyfive of them in the state, "nd if you win there,; it gets sent to <the commander of the American Legion in Springfield to be judged further. Then you get a medal and a toui> of the historical spots of Illinois. If your essay is second or third best, ytfu get a silver medal. The American Legion is also Cnsoring a contest where you win real money! 600 dollars of that green stuff. All you have to do is win with an essay on "How the American Legion Can Best Serve the Community" There is also a second prize of 9)00. This contest is in case you doc 't like modals. Pat Nixn, Dorothy Davis, Janet Heide, Valfcrib Johnson, • Joan Scholz. Adele Schmitt, Ella Buss, Janice Oef fling, Audrey Thomas and Peggy Seladorf packed up their gym suits and went to Woodstock to play. The girls piayed volleyball, had relays, and swam with other girls from Libertyville and Woodstock. English IV Qa the Move The English IV class traveled to Elgin Tuesday morning to visit the Elgin library. The purpose of the trip was to learn the mysterious operations of a big library, find their way around one. and get information for a term paper Girls Dance For P.T.A. For several weeks, a group of girls have been rehearsing in modern dance class under the direction of Miss Joan Cramer Thursday, April 24, they gave a performance for the P. T. A. to the accompaniment of the boys' ensemble singing "Go Down Moses." Modern dancing is a form of flinging oneself about the stage as the music inspires you. The girls enjoyed the class very much and are planning to form a modern dance class next year. Seniors Receive Gifts The Seniors are being swamped with gifts from local and out of town merchants.
