Lake Sunday, June L »-- A buffet supper was served at .™4the home of Atty. and Mrs. Verfe+ fion Knox at Crystal Lake following the service. Richmond, Powers Lake, Kenosha and Twin Lakes. The evening was spent playing games, after which a very delicious buffet lunch was served. The bride-to-be was presented with a variety of beautiful and useful gifts. Hostesses for the shower were Jean Reynolds, Lydia Sherman and Marion Huml. The previous Sunday afternoon, she was honored guest at another shower held at the home of Mrs. Bernice Etten at Ringwood, with about forty guests attending from Waukegan, Johnsburg, McHenry, Richmond, Round Lake and Spring Grove. Game^ were played and prizes awarded. At the close of a social afternoon, the bride-to-be opened gifts which had been placed on a table beneath a large, decorated umbrella which was suspended from the ceiling. A delicious lunch was served by the hostesses, Nancy Diedrich, Bernice Etten and Marie Diedrich. Miss Diedrich will become the bride of John Reynolds on June 7 at Richmond. Althoff of McHenry was honored recently at a dinner held at the Sheraton hotel, Chicago, given by Cotter & Co. Mr. Althoff was recognized with other founders of the company, which was formed by four hardware merchants in the state for the sole purpose of bringing quality hardware to the consumer at the lowest possible price. The company has now grown from the original four dealers to more than 200. Ms Miller To Wed Crystal Lake Girl Announcement has been made by Mr. and Mrs. Kelvin Markee of Crystal Lake of the engagement of their daughter, Betty Jean, to John H. Miller, son of Mrs. Mayme Miller of McHenry and the late Henry J. Miller. No wedding date has been act. is wearing a proud smile this week because she is the mother of twin grandchildren, a son and daughter born to Mr. and Mrs. David F. Powers of Woodstock at Woodstock hospital May 29. There are two other children in the family, Roger, 12, and Thomas, 9. A son, Charles Tremere was born May 28 at the Highland Park hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Martin of Highland Park. The Martins have one other child, a daughter, Nancy Gayle, 2 years old. Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Martin of McHenry are proud grandparents. June 30, giving children three hours of supervised play each week day. A barn dance will be given on June 13 at Hartigan's barn, two miles south of Rv 120 on Rt. 12, with proceeds to be used to buy more equipment for the nursery school. Shower Per Jane Michels Miss Jane Michels, who will become the bride of William Gies of Woodstock on June 14, was honored at a miscellaneous prenuptial shower held last week at the Legion Home. At this meeting, the girls receive a week of intensive training in citizenship and, government. A few years later these girls find themselves in the adult world. This training helps them to take their place in the politics and government of their community, much better equipped to meet and understand the complex problems of modern civilization. It helps them, too, tp interest their contemporaries ill good government. The American Legion Auxiliary is proud to sponsor Darlene Andreas at Girls State this year. iSarlene is worthy of this special acclaim. She is a good student with a full quota of extra-curricular activities to her credit. She id a cheer leader as well as a student of music. Her versatility is shown by these widely separated fields of activities. He* personality has many interesting facets as well.
