On Saturday, Aug. 9, a son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Vincent •dliawme, Jr., at the Woodstock hospital. He was named Vincent III and weighed 8 lbs. 1 oz. Hf Was the first grandson in tne Vincent Schiavone family. .However, just two days after tMe birth of his grandson, Vincdnt Schiavone, Sr., lapsed in a OMna and quietly passed away on Tueatay, August 12. The. Schiavones have been residents of the community for fourteen years and the entire village was shocked! and saddened by his death. The family has been in business during most' of the time they lived in this area. They formerly Operated the "Bus Stop" and then la 1945 went into the dress manufacturing business. After the funeral Friday, four vary kind friends served a lunch to the friends and family attending the funeral. They were Marge Vhrq, rdt, Marge Dixon, Lou Bitterman and Lottie Bransford. •Oie Schiavone family were very grateful for their consideration •nd thoughtfulness. . Larry Cynowa celebrated his ninth birthday last Wednesday with a party for ten of his boy friends. The pai$y was a real heman affair, with a corn and wiener roast on the lawn. A feW of the mothers also were present, and Larry received some very lovely gifts from his friends. •the party at Wally's, given for Stephanie, Ray Cynowa and Alex Wirfs, filled the room to overcrowding. A very nice buffet supper was served to those present. Roy. Miller furnished music for the guests with his accordion. A very gay time was had by all. We had a card from the Claude McDermott family, who are still in Minnesota. Claude and Beauleh Vachet have joined them on a little, trip to Canada. They certainly are having a grand vacation. i ^ * 1? % V .1# a*. .<4 ' * T .J .' * &<•£ , -" y» " K ' ', tr • The Hamlitz family has moved from our village and the Kamin family has moved into the home they formerly occupied. Last year he put on 300 pounds of 0-20-20, which gave it a terrific boost. Ra$ Olbrich..Dunham township is, by now, "putting up third crop alfalfa. He says the yield may be a little lower per cutting but the feeding value is so much higher there is' no comparison. • It isn't often you lay out an entirely new farmstead. I had the privilege last week to confer with John Strepek of Richmond, on just that on his new farm east of Algonquin. In a case like this, one can make his own mistakes instead of inheriting someone elses. . • ,. Molly and Ted Budil have lfft for a vacation in New York. A meeting of the Lakemoor volunteer fire dept. will be held at the McDermott garage on Tuesday, Aug. 26, at 7:30 p.m. Some very important discussions will take place, so all members are asked to be sure an<f attend. The Hyatt family were down to Galesburg la£t weekend to visit the Willard Hyatt family. They also had as their guests last week, Mr. and Mrs. Paschie of Los Angeles, Calif. What a hoax the 40-houf week turned out to be. The farmer can't do it and the city worker found out he can't either. It 13 reaily an inconvenience for him because it makes it necessary for him to spend time and gasolinegetting from one 40-hour week job to the other. If it wasn't for the 40-hour week he would probably work full time on one job aijd earn his entire living there. Look at the cut-down in traffic this would make. It is my opinion that the 40- hour week is definitely a factor in inflation. If a man could earn his living on one 40-hour job, the product he made would be out of the market. It to the fact that it tOdk fifty to sixty hours a week for it man to make a living for hiil family during a Republican administration and the democrats haven't been able to change it. You can't legislate a man a living; he has to make it himself, it seems. Now he has one job to make his living and with his earnings from hip second job he pays his taxes or else his wife workp to pay them. Screwy, ain't it ? I have some information front the University oh corn yields at different width of rows that will really surprise you. It Isn't for publication yet so if you want' to see it you'll hare to come in. This may soon revolutionize com growing. Walter Dahlman, Riley township farm bureau director, brought in a stalk of corn tb" ether evening that measures 10 feet- 4 inches tall. That's that Riley soil. They have to put roller skates on watermelons down there to keep them from Wearing out. Dr. John Ostrander, veterinarian of Huntley, seems to be gaining quite a reputation for his hardware surgery on cowi. According to farmers in his areai, he recently took fifty-six pieceft of wire out of one cows stomach. Clint Swanson said he gave up a cow as a goner recently, but took a last chance. She came back very fine and gave the unusual amount of 75 pounds of, fit in July. . Hamas Origin Many scientists have concluded that the human race began somewhere in the great Asiatic land mass about a million years ago. From there, it spread into all parts of the world Motorists planning, vacation trips to mountain areas were warned to watch the road by Charles M. Hayes, president of the Chicago Motor club. The club official warned that| sightseeing motorists tend to relax their caution at the steering [ wheel in order to enjoy the scenery. They forget about the drivers behind and ahead of tliem. "When a driver wants to admire; scudding clouds in a mountain pass he should pull his car off the road onto the shoulder or into one of the cleared parking areas provided for sightseers on mountain highways, Hayes pointed out. He explained that crawling j motorists cause exasperation, impatience and delay to other motorists. Frequently a driver who is following a slow-moving gawker will take unnecessary risk* to pass up the slow offender. \ Besides keeping to the right side of the road when approaching blind curves in mountain areas, Hayes said the expert motorist knows how to use his brakes. He uses light, repeated pressure on the brake pedal and drives downhill in a reduced gear. He never coasts down grades because many mountain grades are steeper than they ap- If you're driving into the mountains this summer here are some hints to remember: " 1, HUf crests are. highway. fca**- ards. <Wever overtake a car near the crest of a hill. 2.
