They •OBSCURED VISION IN WINTER MONTHS CAUSES ACCIDENTS Every motorist knows that seeing is essential to his safety. For one reason or another a motorist may be able to see less clearly during winter months. Accidents are caused by obscure vision the year around .but the incidence of such accidents rises sharply in winter. In numerous accidents, a number of factors or conditions combine and contribute to the cause. Some of the circumstances under which obscure* vision is assigned a§ the apparent. principal cause are when vision is obscured by: smoke, dust, crops, brush, buildings, parked vehicles, or the headlights of approaching ve-. hides. All of these can cause an accident in any season of thef year. Another list of vision obscurities is: rain, snowfall, sleet on the windshield, fog, steam or vapor. These are the ones which are more prevalent in winter. There is very little a driver can do about fog, heavy rain, snow, or sleet. Common sense dictates that when the condition is bad, he must pull off the road and wait 'till the weather moderates. Wipers and defrosters will clear windshields of snow and ice usually if they are in good working order. Drivers should make it a winter project, however, to keep ice and snow off of all glass. No driver can see well enough to the rear if his rear glass is covered with snow. There will be less obscurity to vision if motorists will sweep their glass all around after their car has been parked in the open during snowfall. \ fliamfetOMON DEAtH J Henry Hendrickson, T5, of§^ Crystal Lake, a former employee, for a short time in the printing*^ department of the McHenry .
