: Vj ^ mm. KSyba it's the weatlfer. Anyhow, we'ie having one heluva ttme getting started in this cor- "Pfr thla week. "There must be something to write about in a busy community Uke our*. In fact, we notice our aport ,f>«g£ growing %mA: m mgn tit a "let-up. ; ' y <?• _ ;•« i, Baseball is just about another ftfll moon away and you know What that means. Are you ready, vl&ick Smith? , ./• ~f "-•> * There is a ttt of ^iexfrs oft'&ie baseball front. Guv Bolger finally signed his contract and the Shamrock* are ready. Hear that Bill Tonyan caught , a priae blue-gill in Meyer's Bay. ft weighed one pound and nine ounces and was eleven and onequarter inches long; We aren't sure if Bill used a fisherman's rule or a common measuring stick. But, that caVch is causing a terrible strain oh a beautiful friendship between Bill and his fishing partner, Eddie Frett. Eddie is sure that Bill heard a big splash up in the bay and toured up there alone to make •the catch. |t ft F. Now they pound out ifltimlii on the pipe* i > Just another retei¥t|[er that Whuconda will have those IT. of I. basketball stars performing in their gym next Sunday night. They look for quite a crowd. Bad our green tie out for St. Patrick's Day and found the same pattern aroQnd the nock of 2*Guzaanio. There ought to be law. ' We've been reading the papers < fed one tails us that the county basketball tournament will be held la McHenry next year. Another says Crystal Lake has it. * All agrtle that it win be held "'"111 January. -- There's a lot of water to go S§ier the dam before then so -Ift's not worry. - * »i One lad says he *flO«<i't mind aehool until they remind Mm it's to prepare him for a job. * The Cubs sent Us a schedule and some news. Funny we haven't heard from the Sox. Could if be they haven't heard Of The McHenry Plaindealer? Another grand success was marked up by the local C O. F. last Sunday as the curtain closed their state basketball tournament in the MCHS gymnasium. Several close games, top-ranking entertainment, a large crowd, superb management and splendid cooperation blended well in the successful culmination of another huge undertaking. Three games were played last Sunday which brought the tournament right up to championship play at 3 o'clock. The first of the three games started at noon and was a humdinger. St. Nick's Juniors of Aurora camc through with a 42 to 41 decision over the St. Gregory team of Chicago. Beach scored 19 points for t'»ie winners, but was shaded one point by Sherry of the losers. Johnsburg's Rangers breezed to a 44-24 win over St. Hyacinth. In the last semi-final game Aurora's Seniors won a real battle from JohnSburg, 42 to 37. --Championships-- Now they were ready for the championship tussles. St. Nick's Juniors came right back aftel their 1-point victory to beat St. Raphael 34 to 32. They earned their honors. St. Raphael's Rangers won the honors with a 28 to 16 win over Johnsburg. That was all for the afternoon." but basketballs were bouncing again at 7 o'clock in the evening. The Aurora Seniors looked sharp as East Moline lost the fine edge shown in previous games. Thf championship went to Aurora 57' to 46. Sorts played a great game, scoring 28 points for the champs Ward hit 19 for Moline. Following the entertainment the haavyweights took tlfte flooi for the tournament windup. And what a windup! When the shoot ing was over, the McHenry team had the championship by tht narrow edge of 2 points, SO tc 48. This ana* a tough oiie to lose but the St. Anne boys made many friends as they fought up hill to all but snatch the victory Since Fred Meyer announced that this may be the last gams for some of the veteran members of McHenry's squad, we will give you the box score.
