HUGE COLORFUL GYM SHOW FRIDAY • • ••• On® of the moat enjoyable programs and surely one of the beat attended ever held in McHenry was the 1953 girls' gym show, directed by Miss Mauris Taylor, which was presented before considerably more than 1,000 spectators in the new gymnasium last Friday evening. The program opened with mass marching and calisthenics, which was pleasing to the eye, vpfth each class appearing in diffeiv ent colored suits. A parade of sports followed which gave the viewer an idea of the variety of activities offered to the girls. Outstanding were the four specialty numbers presented* by each dass. First of these was "Ropes *n' Rhythm" done by the freshmen. In snappy, military outfits thejf appeared in various formation^ with a number of rope skipping1 routines done to music. The sophomores, part, of them dressed in frilly peach and gre'en outfits, the others attired as their dancing partners, in matching color outfits, performed a "Sugar-Tea" strut. The juniors selected the "Bunny Hop" and nowhere could cuter bunnies have been found. The life-size rabbits, advertised on the programs as "left over from Easter," scurried here and there through the: audience and then, in colored spotlight, went into their dance. Between these class routines, a high-jump contest was held which resulted in a tie between! Carol Olsen of the senior class*, and Marilyn Watson, representing the freshmen. The finale was the Montovanl waltz formal in which seniors and juniors, in pastel formals, covered the entire darkened gym floor to present a very beautiful dance. It was concluded as a spotlight was thrown upon a large American flag as "The Star Spangled Banner" was played.
