" • GEORGE P. FREUND ~ I - • Mayor. Attefet: « EARL R. WAL8&, City Clerk. t (SEAL) (Published May 14,' 195^) Every section of 0k coun his one ot mere recipes thi take pride in and believe nothing can equal it. On a recent visit to Arkansas we tried to find one of these local receipes but all we found thaWwe, couldnt find in1 Chicago^dr (McHenry wag a hot bread they >pall "Hush Puppies". They didn't impress us enough to bother about getting a recipe. Had them in several restaurants and hotels in Hot Springs aiid they always .seemed greasy. As near as I could guess they seemed to be a sort of fried muffin made of corn and other flours. Perhaps some McHenryite has a recipe they wculd like to pass on to us for these "hush puppies". Perhaps when they are home-made they are good We would gladly prir.t such a recipe if there is one available. One thing we did encounter Vtt 'Hot Springs, or rather in the vicinity of Hot Springs, was a restaurant knewn as the "Original Smorgasbord". Here we sampled many varieties of salads, relishes, fruits, Swedish me;t balls and other things in addition to the "main" dish of either turttey, roast beef, or ham. There were trays of fried chicken and fish and no limit except your own appetite and capacity. All this was to be had for a nominal charge of $2 per person. We stopi>ed to chat - to the owner and * compliment her dft the good food and found tMt she was a former resident of Arlington Heights and Buffalo Grove and had many acquaints fuices in McHenry. It's a small world! Her name is Mrs. Corrado and she extends an invitation to McHenry pecple to come out anft see her "Smorgasbord". If Mrs. Corrado has a recipm^ tot "hush puppies" perhaps she will share it with us.
