Barth managed to .get back to the plate as Toomey blaxed the ball in to nail Rosing on a too-short slide. Harry Stilling grounded to third and Mo- Henry's scoring was over for the day. "Sonny" Miller set 'em down 1-2-3 in the first two innings, but ran into two kinds of trouble in the third. In the first place, the Vets started to tee off on his pitches. In the next place a couple of long, high drives to left and center went for doubles when fleet outfielding could have hauled them in. Let's admit 'twould have to be fleet. --THIS DID IT-- Ten batters faced Miller in the third and this ia the way they used their bats. Kallenbach singled along the left field line. Barth moved him up a notch with a hit to leftcenter. Toomey put his mates in scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Miller to Molidor. Allen flied out to left and Kallenbach scored when Nolan's powerful throw sailed over home plate. Miller backed up the plate and went. Not that the runs were needed, but Elgin sent three mora across in their portion of the ninth Want to konw how? Twas thisa- way. Krueger filed to first. McCullom lifted a short fly m back of second that Paul Judson (now playing shortstop) couldn't grab. Paul did pick it up and overthrew first to allow McCullom to reach second. KaQenbacfe's' hit to left put McCullom on third. Kallenbach stole second and McCullom scored while a collision at second base waa being untangled. Barth singled to right and Kallenbach went to third. Toomey surprised with a bunt that both Miller and Phil Judson (now catching) went after. Miller picked up the ball and Phil slid on the seat of .his pants. There was nothing to do about Barth's homecoming so Miller threw to first to get Toomey for the second out. Allen singled to center and went to second when Rosing missed on a bare-hand pickup. Barth scored run ntimber three. Rosing camped under Zito's fly to end the inning. Toomey, who did a great job of pacing himself all way, bad plenty left to set the Shamrock down in order in their last chance. Too much Toomey. - -- ELGIN V. F. W. A.* Mr- ft. Areas offering the best values will receive the business during peak vacation months reports Curtis Proud, director of the Travel Bureau for the Chicago Motor club. r "Lower off-season rates for hotel accommodations ' and for transportation often make it possible for the family or individual with a limited vacation budget to enjoy the comforts and luxuries that command steeper rates during the so-called 'high seasons'", stated Proud. Special notice ia being made of summer cruise offerings to ports of the Caribbean, South and Central America during the summer, when rates in these countries are at their most reasonable. Flying holiday tours also enable the summer tourist to en- Joy the delightful resorts of the West Indies, Nassau and Bermuda at a minimum of expense and maximum of enjoyment and comfort.
