Each year the football players of McHenry Community high school are honored guests at the banquet. At tfie end. of the season m team chooses one of its members to be specially honored. The outstanding player on the team has the pleasure of seeing Jus name added to those on the Kiwanis football trophy. This player is chosen not only for the prowess oa the field, but for his sense of fairness and good sportsmanship, as well as his willingness to work for the glory of the' team rather than for personal acclaim. The cheerleaders, those lovely young girls whose enthusiam spurs the team on to victory, are also recognized at the banquet. Kiwanis club feels thai the effort required te make this banquet the gremft 'vupcess it lias always been is more than justified by the pUitfure it gives to tlie players and the in-' spiration it offers to the younger students. It encourages young people to make use of their special abilities in athletic and other fields of endeavor. Athletics, they feel, fosters a ' sense of fair play; it teaches the necessity of getting along with others and the ability to make quick decisions coupled with the fortitude to Qarry out those decisions. When the team wins, no bounds can iericed, but when the team loses they are graceful in their defeat and ever hopeful of future victory.
