For more than thirty years the Forester bowling league has continuously banded together ift good fellowship. „ A snappy, interesting program followed the dinner with Ed Thennes. president of the league, and Fred . I guess he is a chip off the old block Both "Swede" and Dick HUfc a little short of hair on the old dome, but never the less both are grand fellows and my association with them has bees most pleasant. It was the first t time in thirty years we three had been together^ Roy looks . good but has to take it easy. He has lost none of his wit either. I have spent this winter here in * the ^uth with my daughter son-in-law. Jeanne and les West. He will graduate Georgii Medical in June • eitjl will intern at Elmhurst. 111. " Mpybe yon will have a new doc- ' tor in your town as he loves the t>ld town of McHenry and its nice people and also likes to fish. Jeanne was born in McHenry on the corner of Elm and Richmond :*ttoad. Right where the gas star, ^|ion is. ? Well, old timer, take care of .:'#|rourself (getting shaky) §nd reember me to your dear mother LSJ§nd the rest of your family. Say c^ello to my old friends. ** Jilvmya the same old, I , Walter Warner and Bill Kreutzer. George P. Freund. league secretary since its organization, gave an interesting review and pleased the audience with remembrances of members now deceased. Digging into the old records, George found a statement from- the Bargain Print Shop, George A. Stock Proprietor. Prices were low in those days and "statisfaction guaranteed pr your money back." Another memorandum showpd tiiat John Oeffling delivered the beer for one of the parties way back when. Old Timers Were Good There were some good bowlers down through the years. For instance, "Uncle Ed" Smith was the leader in the '33-'34 season with a 18© average. George Justea was up there with a 185 average. Herb Simon and Herman Steffes third with 182. Hank Seshaefer, who is still active in th| league, was eighth man in the awrages with a neat 170. Not many are hitting that mark today. | Happy memories and perhaps a prayer on the lips of those present followed mention of the deceased members who once bowled with -the, group: H. M. Weber, A. E. Nye^ George Weber, John Bojger. Jacob Schaefer, Louis Smith, Ed Smith, Henry Freund, Paul Meyer. Edward Bolger, Henry Miller. Jofin P. Weber. Jay Schneider, John E. Freund, Nick Meyer, Math Steffes and Jos. W. Rothermel. The crowd was pleasantly surprised to have two state officers, State Chief Ranger Earl Duffy and State Secretary Dick Tobin, present for the dinner and party. Father Miller, popular member of the league, was another distinguished person in the crowd. Junior Freund's orchestra furnished the music with Bob Freund joining in to wow the crowd with scone mighty tricky horn tootin'. Twas a nice party. The happy half of the evening for McHenry basketball fans at Zion-Benton , Friday night was the first half when the Frosh- Sophs finished libwQg in * 49 to 36 victory. Danny Green, who has turned in some sparkling play tihis sea- Son, fouled out of the game after scoring 13 points. Johrf Huff, hustling ball handler, was a close second with 12 points. I LATTNER - POLIO GAME-- A release telling of Johnny Lattner's All Stars playing a county All-Star select group of basketball players came in too late for a big spread. However, we want you to know that the game will be played Thursday, Feb. 18, 8 p.m. at Woodstock. While this will be a special attraction, t>.e main point is that the game is being played as a Polio Fund benefit. CHANGES MADE ' It is no longer news to many of you that moRt of the varsity Warriors have been suspended because of a. training rul.e violation. Our only reason for mentioning this is that you should i Middleton know in advance that you willMcCulloch not be watching; the first string! in action this Thursday against i Totals Barrington. Three J. v. players have also been suspended.' ZION-BENTON HANDS WARRIORS A REAL SHELLACKING 60-38 The Warrior varsity basketball boys went over to Zion- Benton Friday night and took tflieir only real shellacking of the season. Might as well be out with the score right here 60 to 38. It wasn't their night so, after a dismal five minutes in the third quarter, Coach Fulton yanked his whole team ana trotted out the bench warmers. The way those fellows hustled! Melvin Freund and "Butch" Novak did some nice shooting to add interest to a lost cause. The team failed to live up to the name of Warriors on this occasion.
