The boys reported ^ that the boat had been burned and sheriff's deputies investigated. It was discovered that the former owner of the boat had ordered the boat destroyed He had not notified the boys of his intentions to destroy it, nor did the man who burned it. The owner gave it to the boys last summer.. The Scouts had done a great deal of repair work on the boat, had washed and repaired the sails, and had prepared to have it afloat by May 30.
