She has conferred with the schools •nd with Jack Tock, art Instructor at the Junior high and the decision was made to begin the Glasses on Saturday, March 8. fl"hes© classes are to be held at the American Legion home and Will be from 9 a.m. to 11 &>m., |br three consecutive Saturdays. March 6, 13 and 20. All interested pupils from the fourth grade through junior high are eligible |p compete. This year the prizes %ill be slightly higher than last M • Americanism Ethel McGee, Americanism Chairman for our auxiliary, entertained at. our last meeting with a program designed to foster pride in the fact that we are Americans. Another portion of l(rs. McGec's program showed a lighter side of American life. It . dealt with the problems of the young girl and the standards of social decorum to which she sspires. Some beautiful table settings were shown and each step •cplained. Mrs. Eleanor Foley and Miss Carolyn Bauer were kind enough to act as camermen. We all enjoyed it. Mary Lou Watkins, Zellnda Bennett and Telia Nardl Were the three girls who presented the Gettysburg address. Mo one seems ever to tire of tearing this stirring classic And SSch time it is heard some new Ifcanty and deeper meaning is ffcund in it. In 1952, tooth the American Legion and the auxiliary took ail active part in support of the McCarran-Walter Act when it Was enacted over the President's •eto in 1952. Left wing and subversive groups fought bitterly against tfce measure. Now that there is feting made an attempt to put through weakening amendments to this bill, the American Legion auxiliary is continuing the fight. Repeal or weakening of the quota system, those same subversive groups hope, will open the gates of America to a greater influx (|f immigrants into the country. To bring in immigrants by the iimdreds of thousands would ean an increase in the number £f leftists and subversives in this {ountry, no matter how carefully he newcomers were screened. With our population growing fo rapidly, the American Legion d auxiliary feel that we will eed all of our resources for our n people. They believe that e future security and hapiness iff Americans must not be endangered by weakening tbs Mcfcarren- Walter Act. Pan American The American Legion auxiliary |s planning to participate in Pan ^American day, April 14, by doing Something special at the April ineeting. The auxiliary is sponsoring a floll contest for junior members. >e dolls are to be dressed in Mexican costume, with a brief itorical sketch of the characrlstics of the country and its pie with each doll. v*. 3>oh Scuft* 3 EMERGENCIES FOR ACID STAINS There is one acid which is more frequently encountered in everyday activities than is generally realized. That is sulfuric acid. The same acid that you find in automobile batteries. It is often brushed against Working on the car, in the garage, sometimes in the garden or at home, your clothing- is often exposed to it. Cuticle remover and corn remover are a source of this acid in many com* mercial preparations. Remember, nearly everything is either acid or alkaline. Acids will either harm the fabric or the djye in it, or both. When a garment is stained, wlfti) an acid fluid, particularly a sulfuric "acid one, IMMEDIATELY RINSE OUT IN CLEAR WATER TO WHICH YOU'VE ADDED A LITTLE BAKING SODA. This will neutralize the acid and prevent any further action on its part. Then rinse out or sponge out with clear water. This procedure is advised for all types of garments, wet wash able and dry clean able alike. Better to risk a slight spot than a hole! ' Next, bring the garment in to be cleaned as soon as possible after staining. TELL US ABOUT THE STAIN. That way we can take what remaining action might still be required and possibly prevent any further damage from occurring. If the garment can be saved, we'll do so. Meantime, the above suggestion can serve you as an emergency measure. The sooner you neutralize the acid, the less risk you run of permanent damage. To be -certain of good cleaning BE SURE TO BRING IT TO-- RAINBOW CLEANERS, North Front Street, around the corner north of National Tea.
