V*. t• • r* For the combined efforts of the various local 4-H clubs, in {resenting their window displays in observance of National 4-H Week, they were awarded the grand championship of the county. The Busy Three display In Vycital's Hardware store window was awarded grand championship among all clubs, receiving a fifteen dollar prize. In the agriculture division, the Huntley Boys received a first and the Woodstock Better Goals dub a second prize. " *s ; In the home economics division, the Riley Girls won first prize and the Grafton Girls of Huntley were second. The contest wa4 held to promote 4-H work and to publicize the work of the 4-H'ers and their activities. Needless to say, the local clubs are grateful for the cooperation of McHenry business firms in placing the displays in prominent places. Many achievements have been recorded during the past year by local clubs. At the 1953 fair, tJie Party-a- Month dub was dedared grand champion. McHenry also had a county model at the state fair, Charlotte Hogan, and an alternate, Annette Smith. The grand champion individual E room improvement exhibit at the fair went to Mary Lynn Hogan and the grand olrampion milk dish was prepared by Marita Thomson. Annette Smith was recognized again for her grand champion baking powder biscuits, while the clothing dub exhibit blue ribbon went to the project of the Ringwood Sunshine Girls and Busy Bumble Bees. The electric activity award, a trip to Camp Shaw-waw-nas-see, went to John Hogan, while prizes for Duroc hog production were awarded to Dave Smith. Charlotte Hogan became fair queen to add to the laurels of the local folks. LOCAL 4-H WINDOW DISPLAYS AWARDED 4 COOKS CORNER COUNTY HONORS * When the winter weather keeps us more or less indoors we can enjoy many tasty oven dinners. Ham, of course, is always good and one needn't think, always, of a whole or half ham. Slices of ham are fine prepared in many different ways. This oven-cooked slice of ham goes well with baked potatoes and baked apples. This makes full use of the oven ffrr an hour or so.. Baked Ham 81k* 1 lb. slice of ham, % Inch thick t Few cloves , % cup vinegar Vi cup water 2 tbsp. sugar 2 tsp. mustard Remove rind from ham. Stick cloves into both sides. Place In pan just the size of meat. Pour vinegar, water, sugar and mustard (well mixed) over the ham. Bake In moderate oven until crisp and tender, basting with liquid in pan several times during baking period. Bake about forty-five Idahoes will require about one hour.
