C.D. of A, Social, Business Meeting The Catholic Daughters of America held a regular business and social meeting last Thursday evening, Oct. 21. Refreshments were served by Leone Rauen and EVelyn Justen and committee. Winners in cards were Mildred Kinsala in contract bridge. Pauline Nimsgern arid Eleanor Strache in canasta, Helen Heuser. Marie Vales and Rose Huemann in pinochle. The next business meeting will be held Nov. 4. Surprise Shower Honors Mrs. Donald Freund A surprise pink and blue shower was held Monday, Oct. 25, at Lhe home of Mrs. Ray Albright, honoring Mrs. Donald Freund. Church Club Serves Dinner St. Patrick's Mother's cTtitr is featuring a "Luncheon is Served" program on Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m. with barbecued beef served in the church hall. He is recovering nicely from surgery but will be confined to the hospital for several more days. Edward and William Sutton, Mr. and Mrs. George Hoelscher and Mrs. M. A. Sutton attended the funeral of their cousin, Mrs. May Lester, at St. Laurence church, Elgin, Saturday, Oct. 23. Mrs. Nellie Bacon, accompanied by the Weston Bacon family of Crystal Lake, spent the weekend at White Lake, near Montello, Wis. Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Smith have been entertaining three girls, friends from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The Smiths' McHenry friends have been lending a hand in showing them a good time. On Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Miller gave a get-together party for the three girls, Hazel Likar, Mary Ternoway and Olga Barilko. Some of the other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Covalt, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Miller and Dr. and Mrs. Robert Graf. On Sunday evening the Covalts entertained the three girls and others. The three Canadian girls told of the Canadian version of bowling, where, it seems, bowling is done with a small ball and only five pins. RECENT DEATH MRS. ANNA TONY AN Mrs. Anna Miller Tonyan, 89, a native of the McHenry community, died on Sept. 17 in her home at Fox Lake, where she was a resident for the past fortyone years.
