The total oil produced in 1954 is estimated at 65% million barrels, valued at 193 million dollars. One-fifth of tihe total is credited to secondary recovery methods. New secondary techniques of oil recovery are not only prolonging the life of the Illinois oil fields but will add enormousfy to the total oil recoverable in Illinois. Production of liquefied petroleum gases and natural gas remained about the same as for 1953, valued at 13 million dollars.
