R. D. WOODS, Clerk of said Court (COURT SEAL) (Pub. Mar. 3-10-17) REP. McCONNELL EXPRESSES VIEWS ON UMT QUESTION Rep. A. B. McConnell of McHenry county is quoted in the March issue of "Better Farminjg" on the question of universal military training. v In a sampling of farm opinion on the subject, McConnell states his views as follows: "I say take boys when they finish high school for one or two years. Give them one half day of military training: That's about all they can absorb anyway. The other half day should be spent either teaching them some sort of vocational trade -- or in broader scholastic courses of college type. The present so-called Selective Service is not really 'selective' at all. And it keeps farm kids hanging in mid-air wondering what they should do." Severe Penalties For Three County Drivers Three county motorists, two from Woodstock and one from Cary, drew severe penalties in county court last week, on charges of driving while under the influence of liquor. A reckless driving count was also contained in the informations. One of the sentences resulted from an accident Feb. 19 at the intersection of Rt. 120 and the Wonder Lake road. Mrs. Elaine Goad, 24, of Woodstock, waB injured in the crash and confined to Memorial hospital.
