THE Thuj^.UL^ribfll.^gSft^r VAJOf- gmttft"! The county baseball league is getting ready for the take off <m May IS. With Joe Frett, Tiger manager, at the controls, Larry Stilling, Si Meyers and yours (truly landed in Crystal Lake last Suit day evening for a league meeting. President Ray Miller and Secretary Jess Armstrong had quite a few questions from the various managers to clear up before the season gets off and a-wftog&n'. I One change thait met with favor pertains the state tournament. The league will send just one team, made up of Ail-Stars chosen from the teams in the league. The manager of the team winning the first' round of play will manage this All-Star group, assisted by managers of the second and third place teams. Everybody knows tJhat you can't send a team to the tournament without loading up for baifcjtle. So why not send one tealn to represent the league? Ait this writing the league will beWade up of Algonquin, Fox Laffie, Crystal Lake Boosters, Grjfefcal Lake Merchants, Johnsburg, McHenry am) Richmond. Maybe before we go to press sostfe word will came am regarding Hebron entering a team. Bill Scheer, who assigns umpires, and Jim De Santo, Umpire In Chief, were present at the meeting and rarin' to go. Both of these men give a lot of time to promoting baseball and both enjoy the respect of players and fans. If there is a better pair of umpires around tbese paints, we L Adams, 518; Brefeld, 501; B. haven't seen them. The league is in good hands. Nop for some good, hot ball games. there that pre has been a switch In pre-season schedule that we told you about last week. In order to give each team a home game, Johnsburg will play the Shamrocks In McHenry May 1. Algonquin will travel to Richmond. On May 8 Ridhmand will go to Jobnsbuzg and McHenry will tour to Algofequin. TOiese *re practice games. A few clays ago we saw some small children trying to cross the highway at Green and-Elm where a 4-way stop exists. Car after car went through without giving the kids a chance. Along came this big Gold Star Motor Express (/Truck No. 62). The driver brought that big "freight oar" to a complete stop and saw to fit that those dhlldren crossed safely. We like that driver.
