These offices wilj be closed as soon as all business men have filed their reports and these reports have been checked and relayed <to Washington. Ajnong •these field offices the one covering this area is that of Census Supervisor Thomas W. Neville, tocated at 226 W. Jackson Blvdf., Chicago. Here, twenty-five employees are at work processing .reports received to date from 61,000 establishments. They are aiirung for , completion of the job in the next few weeks when reports from a ^^laining 15,000 establishments '^lave been received. Registered letters are being sent to establishments which have not filed tiheir reports in compliance with Census law, formally notifying them that their reports have not been received ^ despite several previous reminders and that these reports must be returned promptly in accordance with the law. In a statement addressed to heads of business establishments in this area, Census Supervisor Thomas W. Neville pointed out that the Census Bureau, like any well-conducted business in trying to avoid unnecessary delays and added expense arising from such delays. « "Delays are costly bot/h in terms of addetdJ expense and the loss of time that cannot be recovered," Supervisor .Neville said. "In our business of collecting and publishing statistics timing is jjp very important. Those business men who have delayed filing their reports probably do not realize that statistics are a perishable commodity and decrease in value as they increase in age. "The Census of Business, Manufactures and Mineral Industry together make up one of the most helpful services which government performs for business men. The new census facts will be used millions of times during toe next several years by business men in making decisions on plant location, -product development, marketings chanels, sales quotas. adverting campaigns, 4 fftd^ajaany .other^jnatters. associations, ehaiftbers of commerce,- «nd other groups will- also constantly life "using this up-todate, detailed information. The censuses will be of vital use to (the government in mobilization planning and many other programs as well." Plans are now being made for the 1955 summer school session which will be f.'eld at the Woodstock Community high school. It will begin on Monday, June 20, and will close on Friday, July 29. In addition, it offers an opportunity for a student to take a course which a schedule conflict may have prevented him from taking during tihe regular year. Finally, a required course may be taken during the summer session to release time for some other course during the regular term. The following courses will be offered: Typing, shorthand, bookkeeping, freshman, sophomore, junior and senior English, general mathematics, elementary algebra, plane geometry, advanced algebra (full year's course), trigonometry, solid geometry, United States history and world history. Other courses may be offered if there is sufficient demand. Two semesters of work may be carried during the six-week slimmer session. TVne first period will meet from 8 to 10:13 a.m.; the second period from 10:16 to 12:30 p.m. A student may take English first and second semester by attending both periods and thus receive a full year's credit in that subject, or he may take English 2 and the second semester of Algebra or other combination.
