Gene Freund pitched a five hitter and struck out twelve to beat Algonquin 6-3 on a very wet field Sunday. Gene also had two hits as did Charlie Pierce and Matt Eichinger. Pierce's hits were both doubles while Eichinger drove in three runs. Ernie Useman pitched a three hitter to beat Harvard 8-4 Memorial Day. Wildness had Ernie in trouble and Gene Freund came in from his third base spot to retire the side in the second and again in 1 the sixth. Charlie Olsen and Matt Eichinger paced the attack with two hits each. Gene Freund drove in three runs while Bob% Cable, Charlie Pierce and Carl Walker chipped in with timely hits. With the score tied 4-4, Charlie Olsen stole home and Gene Freund squeezed Rog Benson in to sew up the game in the fifth. The American Legion Post is well pleased with the turn out of boys this year. Theme are about twenty-five out for the team and competition for positions is very keen. McHenry plays at Hebron next week. Class D was won by Pearl Miller and Millie Hinspater was second. On June 7th it will be ladies guest day and a Peoria system will govern play that day. Last week McHenry Country Clubs golf pro, Julius Goffo gave pointers on putting so this week he tells how to read a green when putting. Readings green means to find which way (he grass grows. For example, nm your hand over a rug, back and forth. If your hand glides along smoothly, you are with the grain or the nap of the rug, but when your hand comes back there is more resistance. Therefore you have a. condition of against the grain or the nap. This is important in putting. Down hill putts are usually with the grain and don't need to be hit hard for they roll easy and brceak to the lkt. Uphill putts have to be hit harder to maintain their course and have a tendency to break to the right.
