I11 I'M } ; 11 x On May 25 all the boys registered for Little League baseball were auctioned to six major league managers. Each manager has 41 boys on his squad. Of this number he is allowed, under Little League rules, to maintain, 15 boys for his team. The maximum number of 12 year olds he can fcave is 5. H# can also have a maximum of 5 eleven year olds. He must have at least 5 boys ten years ^pr under. The boys who db not. remain with -the first squad will be sent tp play with boys of their own age or experience. This will be known as a minor league. If, after a boy is sent to the minors! he shows exceptional ability, he will have a chance to go back up and play with a major league team. So it wiH be to every boys advantage to hustle and try to get recognized by a major league manager. If there is any boy who is registered and through some error his name did not appear on a team roster, please notify one of the league officers and (the matter will be taken care of. Next week we will announce the opening date for Little League play. We will also try to have a schedule drawn up. COUNTY LEAGUE SCHEDULE June 5 C.L. Boosters at Johnsburg McHenry at C.L. Social Security Law Change^ I Changes in the Social Security law were released in papers in various parts of the nation last week in regand to seriously disabled people who have worked in employment or self-employment. Tbey stated that interested persons should inquire before June 30 concerning having their earnings record frozen. The new <iisability freeze provision, according to the reports, was made by the 1954 amendments to the Social Security law. It is designed to aid workers who become totally disabled by illness, injury or other .physical or mental impairment, by protecting their social security bene^ fit rights during the period of disability. To qualify for this disability freeze, the worker must have been disabled for a period Of at least 6 months and (he must have worked in covered employment or self-employment for 5 years out of the 10 years 'before the disability started. Active military service, after Sept. 15, 1940, and before July 1, 1955, as well as work in the railroad industry can also be counted toward 'the required period of work. This change in the 'law also applies to those workers Who are now receiving retirement payments as well as to those who will become eligible for benefits in the future. For those who; Are now receiving payments* they may be able to qualify under this provision for a larger benefit amount if tfrey were disabled for long periods before they reached age 65 and are still disabled. They may start getting larger payments as of July and get them more promptly if they file an application for a disability freeze by June 30. If the disabled person dies after June 30, the disability freeze will also protect his family's rights to survivors payments, but only if he has applied for it before his death. For this reason, the importance is emphasized for every person who meets titoe requirements for the freeze to make application for it by June 30. He also stressed the point that the law does not provide for cash benefits to a disabled worker be* fore he is 65.
