The hospital committee held a chapter night and presented the guest speaker, Horace Wagner, a member of the board of directors of the Memorial hospital, who gave a brief talk about the work connected with establishing and maintaining a hospital. The hospital Committee presented the hospital with a donation. Refreshments were served by the committee in charge. Five members of our organizazation were presented witih their second degree in the Women of tlie Modse. Actual enrollment in this degree, or Academy of Friendship, took place in Downers Grove. Attending and enrolled from our chapter were Anne Rodenkirch, Eleanore Brusso, Mary Hensel, Mabel Thomas and Joan Frett. A symbol of this degree was presented in the form of a small gold ring to be worn by each member qualified and enrolled. Tuesday, May 17, a birthday anniversary was held to celebrate tlie beginning of the third! year of our auxiliary. Invitations j were extended to surrounding lodges, with sixty-five attending. COMPLIANCE WITH ALLOTMENTS Not NECESSARY FOR ACP Farmers are no longer required to comply with • corn, wheat and other basic crop allotments in order to be eligible for cost-sharing assistance under the Agricultural Conservation program. Clinton Swanson of the local ASC office issued this announcement on the basis of legislation which has just been enacted. This means that fanners are now eligible to participate in the 1955 Agricultural program even though 'they do not comply with basic crop allotment programs. It is under the AC program that the government (under specified conditions) shares with farmers the coat of approved conservation practices such as sod waterways, terraces, pasture establishment, limestone and rook phosphate. In order to participate tr.ie farmer must file a request at the ASC office, deceive a specific approval froim the county committee and complete practices according to all requirements. Requests cam be filed anytime during the year. I This new legislation, warned Mr. Swanson, in no way affects current allotment and marketing quota provisions. jEWBfirsTtrmr GHOSrp PLANNING RELIGIOUS TRAINING VA ASSISTANCE A Veterans Administration representative from the Rockford VA office will be on duty at Woddfetock Tuesday, June 7, to inform and assist veterans, their dependants and the general public regarding all benefit programs of the VA. Their representative will be on duty from 10 <a.m. to 4 p.m. in the post office building, second floor, in Woodstock. The Jewish study group of McHenry county will meet at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jacik Cooper in rural McHenry at 8:30 Friday niglht, June 7, to make plans for continuing the religious education of their children next year. The recently formed study group has just completed sponsoring its first year of religious training for the Jewish children of the county. Twenty-one boys and girls from almost every town in McHenry county were enrolled in this year's class which met Saturday mornings at the Community Methodist church in McHenry, where Mrs. Pearl Brothman of OMcago was the teacher. besides discussing next year's agenda at this meeting, the Jewish study group plans to hold an election of officers. McHenry Youth Hurl In Minor Accident Extend Invitation To Leqture Luncheon Club Ann Varese, director of the Leoture Luncheon club, announced this week that invitations are being extended to anyone interested in joining the organization. Information may be secured by calling her at 1114. Mrs. Varese hopes to complete the 1955-56 program during June. She would like to complete the membership this month also. Buy U.S. Sayings Bonds James DeYoung, 19, was injured late Wednesday afternoon of last week in a collision of his motorcycle and an auto driven by R. C. Jones of McHenry. The accident occurred on the Barreville blacktop road, a mile north of Rt. 176. near Crystal Lake. Jones was reported by authorities to be driving north and told deputy stheriffs that De- Young, travelling south, came around a curve and was in the wrong traffic lane. He was unable to avoid the crash, he said. Three troops, one frtan CrystA Lake and two from McHenry, are having a Greedh Bar Training course.
