These are good thoughts and should be carried out, by all workers, whether they be on the farm or in the office, the educational committee of the Illinois State Medi- . cal society advises in a health taJk. " Many persons .prefer a winter or spring vacation. Some like to leave the snow and cold to spend a few weeks in a wanner, sunnier climate. Others enjoy the reverse. This is an individual preference that should be indulged in, just so long as it is a vacation. These periods of change, away from one's regular routine, are . most important. They create a j new pace, not only in living but in thinking. Tlhey provide a "letting up" from chores and r^ . sponsibilities and create a."stimulus that results in a fresh emotional and physical outlook. * Everyone should take a vacation. No matter how well liked br pleasant the job, an individual needs to get away from it for a time. Sticking close to the task day in and jday out takes its Unconscious toll in the form of restlessness, irritation, "snapping" disposition, and a fatigue laid boredom that, if ignored, Will do harm, not only to the worker, but to tfte job itself. Effective results cannot be accomplished when one is tired or bored. * The worker, whether he be the Executive, the stenographer, or ttie laborer, needs a rest. But, as in everything else, moderation te required. The sedentary worker, for example, who has no exercise all year, cannot start out on a thirty-six hole round of golf. His zest for the game will lie lost in the body fatigue brought on by aches and pains Of strained muscles. Nor can he climb a mountain the first day or walk miles about the country Bide. H must work gradually to bis goal, so that the change accomplishes its objective -p- the feeling of physical fitness and , t'he well-being that comes with relaxation. -f Vacations should be planned rwith care, so that tCiey do not become a burden financially. One iWho ^"plunges" everything he on a vacation will return his job morose and wondering just how the bills will be met. Make your plans fit your means. Travel accommodations are avail- >.|able that will meet your individual pocketbook. 14 Maybe your "change of scene" means leisure time for reading, fmttering in your garden, or -doing a hundred little things for which you have no tim£ in your workra-day year. It doesn't make much difference what the d'.ionge Is, provided it meets the objective of ithe vacation -- literally vacating or getting away from routine. If your plans include automobile or camping trips, be alert Jto safety measures in driving s^and caution in the selection of "camping sites. Many a family has started out with happiness in Jtheir hearts, only to have accident and disease return (them to 'their homes. By all means take a vacation. 'Plan it with all the interest and enthusiam to fit your individual tdesives. Guard your (health by javoiding unsanitary eating places, "excessive exercise or - wearing yo*rBeif out by crowding too :snany activities into a limited period. Do the things you want to in moderation. Have fun -- and relaxation. Make your "change of pace" count. Don't leave wisdom at home in your search of change, for it is wisdom that will return you to your job, with renewed zest, vitality and happiness. * \ttoric for (jou Why is it that few candidates can tell the truth about their opponents ? to USE! County an<3 city law enforcement officials and officers frdm all parts of Illinois, cheating in Springfield last week at a three" day Traffic Court - conference, heard Governor William G. Stratton describe traffic safety as "one Of the Qhief, if not the chief, problems confronting the state today." The / governor pointed to the new Illinois drivers license law, passed 'at the last session of the General Assembly, as the first phase of a' safety program which he strongly supports. The second phase -- vvfcieh he stressed in his opening message to the current session of the Assembly -- involves the enactment of legislation to fix speed limits on the highways and to expand the state highway police force. i¥ Savings invested in Crystal Lake Savings and' Loan earn ,2<'2% plus »/2% extra* 28tf DRIBS YOUR HAIR WITH DRY AIRI discover NEW comfort--NEW balr CLAIRE Beauty Shoppe 200'So.
