Pearson and Gust Pearson attended funer 500,G00TH GAS COMPANY CUSTOMER GETS GILDED METER Northern Illinois Gafe company installed a gilded meter at the new home of its 500,000th customer recently at special ceremonies held at the site in Rolling Meadows, a young * community northwest of Chicago. Owners of the home, Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Karst, who received their choiqp of gas appliances in recognition of the event, were congratulated by Marvin Chandler, president of Northern Illinois Gas, and others. Stamping it as one of the fastest growing gas utilities in the country, the installation of meter number 500,000 climaxes a continuing Northern Illinois Gas' company growth attested by the approximately 120,000 new customers added to the system during the past five years. Marvin Chandler, the utility's president who spoke briefly at the ceremonies, said it was fitting that the 500,000th installation should occur in Rolling Meadows, since this community is, the newest and one of the fastest growing in the company's seventeencounty service area. It is doubly significant, he observed, that the 500,000th customer was added to the system while plans are toeing made to celebrate a century of gas service in northern Illinois next month (Aug. 15 to 20) in Ottawa.
