The plat of Ringwond was made in 1854. ! The name Ringwood was derived i from the fact that the settlement: was surrounded by woods. It has! a fair amount, of business and many lovely homes in pleasant surroundings. This community has always been interested in education. In i 1866 their public school became! a graded school, with PrOf. Wm. i Nickle as print ipal | In 1870 a nursery served farm- , ers with fiuit and other types of! trees. The nursery was owned by John V. Buckland. The early in- , dustries consisted chiefly of the usual dairy industries, principal- • ly butter and cheese. ' The fii st churches on record j were the Methodist and Methodist j Episcopal. \ In 1861. Wm. Mead and Chaun-1 cey Beckwith built a church and ' bore all of the expenses themselves. Before that, religious ser- ; vices were held in the public ! school house. j SERVICES HELD ON SATURDAY FOR | CHARLES NICKLES | Charlps Nickels, Sr., 78. of Woodstock, a native of McHenry, i died Wednes'ay night.
