Fred Meyer, league president, acted as master of ceremonies and was assisted by other officers, LeRoy Smith. Bill Bolger and Dick Hester, in carrying out an impressive program. Mr. Davis, district organizer, complimented the people of the community for doing so much in such a short time. He wound up his remarks with words of wisdom in which he urged both parents and fans to leave the umpiring to the umpires and the managing to the managers. Nick Etten, formei New York Yankee slugger, was a welcome guest, offering encouragement and speaking in behalf of Pony League organization. The V. F. W. Drum and Bugle Corps performed in their usual fine style, adding color to a fine program. LEGION BASEBALL Gene Freund scattered seven hits to beat Crystal Lake 6-3 at Crystal Lake Wednesday evening1. Sparked by some great defensive play by John Huff, the McHenry Legion won its tenth game of the season. The American Legion Post, No. 491, treated its baseball team and several guests to a Cub doubleheader recently. McHenry will travel to Johnsburg to determine which team has title to second place. The Crystal Lake Merchants and Algonquin will cross bats for fourth place and a right to play in the play-offs for the league championship. Playoff games will- start the following Sunday with the winners of next Sunday's games playing each other. The loser will play Fox Lake. The playoffs will be a 2 out of 3 series. Fike donated a plaque to Tom Blumhorst of McHenry for his grand champion swine litter. A plaque for the grand champion Ayrshire was given to Diane Seibel of Crystal Lake by McHenry Garage.
