EXTENDED (Continued from Page 1) it is understood that such unpaid bills can be filed as liens against the property. Another reminder from city sources is that McHenry will follow Chicago and other cities in extending daylight saving time one month this'coming fall. Instead of turning your clocks back the last Sunday in September, you will be waiting until the last Sunday in October. It was felt that too much confusion Would arise if the city of McHenry did not follow the action taken by other cities. At the present time, the chairman of the finance committee is knee-deep in a plan to work out a budget for the Council to follow. While each city passes an annual appropriation ordinance to permit expenditures, the local Council is attempting to set up a more definite program, limiting expenditures in each department. This will, no doubt, require more extensive monthly reports showing expenditures and balances in each account. Each committee will then be in better position to plan work or projects in its department. City officials have asked that housewives remember that the many solicitors calling at their doors are being checked by the police department, asked to show their credentials and then registered in the city clerk's office. Many of these are operating under interstate commerce provisions. However, any permit issued! by the city is not to be interpreted as an endorsement of the product being sold. Every effort is being made to screen these applicants and some have been refused permission to solicit in the city. While the city can assume no responsibility for payments made by individuals for merchandise to be delivered at a later date,, the police department will appreciate reports of any misconduct on the part of solicitors. Peddlers must produce licenses issued by the city. A peddler delivering merchandise at the time of sale comes under a different . classification than a solicitor.
