CENTER OF ATTRACTION for Swing to Trim Look Sweeping All Age Groups College Men Take Lead in Setting Pace for Younger Groups FROM college senior all the way down to first grader, the trend to the "neat, trim look" is in full swing for the coming school term. Gone from the classroom and campus scene is the "sloppy look" of yesteryear, with no regrets whatever from parents, who have long looked askance at many of Its unsightly extremes. The current trend to neatness does not in the least detract from the importance of sports clothes In the back-to-school picture. Quite to the contrary, it gives them new Importance as the "basics" of classroom and campus attire. Sports Clothes Coordinated Sport coats, zipper-front jackets, blazers (now enjoying a sharp resurgence of popularity in college end high school circles) and sport shirts along with plenty of slacks < flannel, covert and chino) all figure prominently in this year's Lack-to-school wardrobe. The essence of the "neat, trim look" resides in properly coordinating these various items of Apparel, and in so doing, boys of fill ages can learn the elements of good taste in attire and form correct habits-of dress. Teachers welcome the "new look" in students clothes for its psychological influence in fostering neat and orderly habits of work and application to studies. The new favorite among outercoats for boys in all age bracket^ is the short coat, in rugged, nubby tweeds. In contrast to the dark colors of the fall suits, medium value colors are the leaders in both the 6hort and longer coats. Small twocolor weave patterns with random nubs (small balls of wool) in contrasting colors are typical. Charcoals Popular Boys and parents alike should Hote the charcoal brown and charcoal blue wool flannel suits when Chopping for school. These have the rich formality of the charcoal gray flannels, with an added touch Of interest in the close blending of two colors: charcoal with brown Vnd charcoal with navy blue. Collegians Up-Grade Attire;' High Schoolers Follow Suit Spearheading the trend of the "neat, trim look" is the college man, whose decision to dress up instead of down immediately triggered a sharp reaction against the "sloppy look" in the high school or prep school lad, always quick to take the cue from his older brother in matters of attire. Gearing his selections to the new "neat look," the college man will take back to school a basic wardrobe that will shape up something like this: suits, topcoats and hats for dress-up occasions; sports coats (including the newly popular blazer) to be worn for informal dates combined with a wide array of slacks, which will also team with knit and fabric sport shirts, sweaters, sport jackets and fingertip length coats for general campus use. The effect sought is one of casual ease and good grooming, avoiding the extremes of "sloppiness" on the onehawTand stuffiness on th« other.
