A demon- ' titration of flower arranging had been scheduled to be given by the ownfer of a Chicago florist shop but she had to cancel her 'appearance a few hours before the meeting was to take -place. Mrs. Alice Condren, president of the club called surrounding gar- 9 den clubs to see if a substitute program could be arranged but she was not successful. She then called on members of the club to caj-ry out a program held at the home of Mrs. Karen Widen on - Thursday, Sept. 9. The first part of the evening was given over to making cor- "• sages out of whatever blooms might be found in the average garden. Mrs. Mary Lou Hartog gave a most helpful and artistic demonstration in the making; of "glamellias." This is a term uijed to make corsages out of individual flowerets by building them up one inside the other and wir- * ing them. Gladiolas, amaryllis and others can be used. Mrs. Edward Muchow displayed the various tablecloths and napkins used in the tables that had been entered in other flower shows that had won ribbons. Also, Mrs. Leon Switzer, Mrs. Charles Kopp, Mrs. Alice Condren and Mrs. Muchow show- - ed the individual ways in which they are keeping and displaying the many ribbons they are winning in these shows. Mrs. Dorothy McEachren showed colored slides of London and the surrounding countryside. The evening was concluded with delicious refreshments provided by the hostess and her co-hostess, Mrs. William Fiala, served to members and the following guests: Mrs. Charles Boldt, Mrs. Wallace Sinclair, Mrs. Helen Comiskey, Mrs. Carl Hallstrom, Mrs. Margaret Gherkins, Mrs. Arthur Hoppe, Mrs. John Ducey, Mrs. M. Munson, Mrs. A. Shros- , bree, Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. WHlig. Jewelry Demonstration A jewelry demonstration will be held Thursday, Sept. 15, at 8 o'clock at Milly's Pizza, Wonder Woods. It will be sponsored by the Altar and Rosary sodality of Christ the King Church, Wonder Lake. Mrs. Angeline Morris will act as hostess for the evening. Refreshments will be served. New Zoning Ordinance McHenry County's board of supervisors, at the annual meeting Tuesday, passed a ndW zoning ordinance that will affect all of the county's future buildiAg outside corporate limits. No person will be permitted to build on any lot smaller than of 60 foot frontage, or with 12,000 square feet, in the future. This, of course, does not affect lots where building permits have already been secured. The county's new building code went into effect on Aug 1 and has enough teeth in it to cause fines for those who . do not secure proper permits before building any kind of house, 'barn or garage, or before adding to an existing house. Grover Wickline of Wickline Bay was fined last month for failure to secure a permit on a house he was 'building, Since the new ordinance governing building is quite complicated, it is recommended .that any person planning to build in an unincorporated area such as Wonder Lake contact the zoning officer before starting the building. Cars Race Through M. S. Nelson, who lives on the County road next to the Handy Pantry, says people use the road as though it were the Indianapolis Speedway. Last week a small kitten, Fluffy, was killed by a car on the highway. Nelson says the" cars go so fast that it would be impossible for an old person to get across the road if one of the speeders came over the hill near the store. Members are asked to pay their dues promptly and "veterans who are not members are urged to contact the post for full details of the advantages of membership. The new pledge of allegiance cards will soon be placed in all classrooms of ^Harrison, Ringwood' and Greenwood * schools by the wonder Lake Legion post. This1 is the first step in a series of Legion-sponsored activities for the children of the community. Lois Weeks, commander of the post, says that the post home was recently broken into. She says nothing was taken and it was evident that the entry was made by children, probably 'teenagers. She urges parents to check on their children's whereabouts as any vandalism anywhere may lead into something more serious.
