You Can Get Closer to Your Subject After the Picture's Taken If you ever find among your snapshots one in which your primary subject doesn't stand out as much as you'd like ... if you are wishing you'd have moved in a little closer with your camera, stop the wishful thinking because the situation can still be remedied. This remedy has a name. It's called cropping and enlarging. That's because you "crop away" all of the picture that you don't want, and enlarge the part that's left. It's a regular practice among professional photographers and amateurs who do their own darkroom work. We know people who just never seem to make a print of a whole negative. Thus, they have a chance to improve their composition after the picture is taken. But so does everyone--whether you do your own7printing or not. Your photofinisher can do it for you. All you need do is select the square or rectangular area of the snapshot that you'd like enlarged. Mark it on the print (use grease pencil if you want to save the snapshot) and take it, with your negative, to your photofinisher. It's ax good idea to consult him about the size of your enlargements, because it will depend on the quality of your negative.
