Nancy Swanson, vocalist, and, Sarakay Douglas, accompanist,' did two songs beautifully, de-1 spite a peculiar indisposition of our piano which made it sound like music in the old time movie | house. Mrs. McGee reported that two' books were given to the library, i as is our yearly custom. One is "Meet Mr. Eisenhower," the other i "What Every Woman Should! Know About Finance." Convention One of the greatest thrills came during the convention when Frances Matchen received, on behalf of our unit, the juniors' travelling trophy presented each year to the unit showing the greatest increase in junior membership. Minnie Green attended the state convention at Springfield, as did Christine Krinn and Davergne Gregory. Marge Mikota was unable to attend because of back enthused and with reports on many facets of the convention. The most detailed report was given by Christine Krinn. She also included some humorous accounts of the trials and tribulations of a group of girls trying to find their way about a strange and crowded city. There were the usual speeches and discussions of auxiliary affairs. The department president of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, the junior past president of the United Spanish War Vets and a representative of the Flying Farmers organization were presented to the audience of approximately 1,400. "•Mrs. Bette Sullivan gave a $600 award to a girl from Quihcy wh'o "Is in nurse's training. Citation was' received by the department president for the auxiliary's participation in the infantile paralysis program. Musical selections were sung by junior members from Da,nville. This chorus was entirely made up of Negro girls who had •the fine voices so often found in youngsters of their race. The auxiliary membership in Illinois now sitands at 82,056. Our rehabilitation chairman reported on tiie Downey party and asks that members search their wardrobes for size 16 coats, badly needed by the woman patients at Downey.
