mrnm: • . THi McHENRY PLAINDEALER IRHP •' A'-';r', <y^^iV:.-t It was early Tuesday evening that the voice from the radio told us the number Of days left to do our Christmas shopping. It wtyB only the night before that we treated kids from near and far. It was'Halloween, yoii know,- and all seehied to prefer a treat to a trick. But, the man on the radib made us forget Hallowe'en and ftnade us shiver with thoughts of Christmas shopping. He made US think that most people are smjig>- ly safe wi>th, mosrt. of their popping completed. The finger pointed at us to fret busy. , Hardly had hi% voice drifted away when the man at the door reminded us of Thanksgiving. That pian was the manager of the Mchenry Shamrocks baseball team, Larry stilling. Larry called on us to say that the Shamrocks will hold another feather party this year. That started us thinking about Thanksgiving dinner ^ and wag a great comfort. That shopping can wait. It always has! Larry tells us to tell you that the party will take place next Thursday night, Nov. 10, at the Fox Hole. They have chosen the night before Armistice Day with the thought that people; might be in a mood to get out and to places; Tou know and we know that small town baseball teams cannot 'gain enough support these days to carry on without some extra activity to raise funds. #» The Shamrocks are not building a fund for next year. It is a cue of paying what they owe from last season. County league teams must be kept in action. After all, we are bringing players up through the various age groups and want a place for them to continue the sport when they outgrow the various groups. So --; the Shamrocks hope, to see you at their party. Larry Stilling will lend the "Schnitzelpank" and "Gov" Bolger will do fcn Irish Jig. q* Many changes have occurred {ffound our old stamping grouhds, but w'e miss' old faces more as time gbes on. The' last one missing from our corner is Frank Masqiielet. We like to remember that broad smile said hearty chuckle. There were many harmless tricks pulled back in the days when none of us were quite so busy. On Friday afternoon ot this week the McHenry Warriors travel to Lake Forest for the windup of the football season. Game time is 2:30 p.m. What McHenry wouldn't do for a victory! Maybe a switch from the lamp lights will prove helpful to our young scrappers. Sad fact of .fife • square, meals. make round pfeoplp. People who are so/ sure .they know where the younger genehttion is going should try and remember where it came from. A A A, ^ ^ A ^ * THE CTEAT OUTDOORS By ?*cfc Walsh Pheasant season is only eight days away. lit starts'at 12 noon on Nov. 15 and tuns to Nov. 30 inclusive. On other days, shooting starts at sunrise and ends at sunset. There are five extra days of pheasant shooting this year. Rabbit season doesn't open 'till Nov. 26. This is to cut down the danger of tularemia. Last year. 101 cases of this disease were reported in Illinois compared to Only 29 in 1953. Hunters are waxhed not to shoot any slow-moving or sluggish looking rabbits as they are liable to be infecfted jaiiinals. When cleaning a rabbit, look for tiny white spots on the spleen and liver. If any traces at all are found, wash your hands with soap and hot water or preferably a disinfectant. Put iodine on all cuts on your hands. A great help in cleaning rabbits ii to wear rubber gloves. Always cook a rabbit thoroughly. This eliminates all danger of infection. Raccoon hunters started Tuesday night, Nov. i. They are given 15 more days of hunting this year. The season on 'coon hunting runs from Nov. l to Jam. 15. Trapping season for mink, 'coon, and muskrat starts Nov. 15 and ends Dec. 31. New code pamphlets are now available (in. limited numbers). There are changes that differ from dates shown on your license. Be sure to check. Three local sportsmen bagged three deer With bow and arrow recently. Monte MUter, Antioch, 100 lb. doe. at Sidnaw, Mich. fcen Hamih, iKix Lake, 100 lb. doe at Sianaw, Mich. Vince Adams, McHenry, 190 lb. buck, 8 pt., near Iron River, Mich. Needless to say, all, are very happy. Vince was seen driving down- G^een ' street this week, smiling from ear to ear. The proof, of his marksmanship was tied across his car. •<--JttcHenry Recreation ^fusiiiess Men-- ' Won Lost BusS Motors 26 6 Freund's Dairy il 11 Bimbo's No/2 19% 12% Tonyan Construction 18 14 Brennan Milk Service 17% 14% Bimbo's No. 1 17 15 Johnson Tool 16 16 Crystal Tap 13 19 McHenry Welding 12 20 Volo House 12 20 .Highland Shores 10 22 Harry's 10 22 Musling, 211-559; F. Northern Mini Bowmen News ji We stood through the rain last Friday night to watch the home team play a 6-6 tie with Warren. Uniforms were so covered with, mud that a player might have lined up with the opposition unnoticed. Paul Yanda's band came out in spite of the weather conditions and put on quite a sho\g. the Warrior Chief scalped his man and the crowd cheered loudly. We think McHenry should have won that game in spite of tlfe mud, but probably Warren fans have different ideas. - Let's take Lake Forest. Crystal Lake and -Zion-iBenton are still tied for first place in the North Suburban. Crsytal Laije beat Woodstock 19 to 0 last week while Zion eked out a 6-0 win froth Baxrington. The t^o leaders meet at Crystal Lake Friday night'in a game that should rate as the battle of the year. It won't be long now. Seems we can hear the bounce of the basketball. PICKUPS-- Everyone should travel if only y, to get himself acquainted with the comforts of home. A lot of fun is waiting for. you at Northern Mint Bowmen's Turkey arid Novelty Shoot on Nov. 6.
