The pheasant season will open at 12:00 noon on the 11th of November, and will run to November 30th inclusive. Last week We made the mistake of saying the season opened on the 15th. We hope this mistake has not caused any hunters to change their plans. Try to keep the "Ten Commandments of Safety" and you will have safer and more enjoyable hunting. Here are 1 few extra tips to remember. R^pect the farmers and landowners. Never hunt on a person's land without his permission. The state law saya you cannot hunt on unposted land without the owner's permisison. Do not let your dog get too close to a stream or creek after the 15th of November as the trapping season opens then and a dog can get a pretty sore foot ih an average size trap if not released immediately. The trapping season opens November 15 at 12 noon and ends December 31 at 12 noon. We urge you to pick up the Illinois Game and Fish Codes at sport stores and the City Clerk's*, office. Woodstock Children's home and to raise funds for partial support of this community institution/ is being launched by fifty citizens of the county and the Rev. Eugene Maxwell, superintendent. Richard cross, chairman of the annual fund drive which is conducted each year at this time, said that the committee will welcome invitatiqjis to appear before civic groups to outline the purpose of the 'home, to explain its role in county society and answer questions. Mr. Cross documented the need for the home in the county. "This need strikes h,ome when we realize half the average of forty-five children come from McHenry county families. Children are the innocent victims of broken homes and are placed with the Children's home by parejits or court action." Cross said the home requires $45,000 a year to operate; ,of this amount, $10,000 - came from parents and the courts, $20,000 from the Free Methodist church and $6,000 from contributions other than those received in the fund drive. That leaves about $9,000 to be raised during this "year's drive, a boost of about $1,400 over last years' charity requirements. Rev. Maxwell said the increase is partly .because less money has been received from parents and courts, partly because Jthe number of children is below the average. "While $1,000 per child may seem like a high amount to some, the state tells us we are the lowest of any institution in Region One, which is northern Illinois outside Chicago," Rev. Maxwell said. It is a club that will provide a program of firearms training covering activities such as safe handling, proper gun care andva marksmanship program. There is also leadership training in club administration. The primary interest is the instruction of youths, in the age bracket of 12-18, in firearms handling and prevention of hunting accideifts. In this age br&rket, 42% of the nation's hurting accidents occurrted. As a result, the National Rifle Association of America has devised a course to train youths and loWer this percentage. The courses are put into action by certified instructors whose certifications are based on experience and passing examinations.
