The, answer was 89 cents. "It's pretty tough to have to pay that "Tmuch for a piece of steak," said the fellow. "It would be a heckuva lot tougher if you paid any less," said Billy. Thinking of butchers . reminds us that Jake Stoffel claims to be color blind. Next time you buy an order from him, why not offer him a pink five-spot. He won't know the difference. Bob Conway got "took" for a ride through the west (Hampshire) with Dreymiller and "Muggs." Even took him to a ghost town. "That's enough," says Bob. Edith Rand asks that we take a second look at a couple of bowling scores among the Nite Owls this week. Shirley Sutton hit 'em this way: 172-207-202- 581. Clara Colman kept her games close (and high): 191-190- 193-574. That's mighty fancy woodwork. Sorry we cannot print more names in bowling. Sarge Duttko was in with some real good scores, but they fall below ttie charmed circle. Maybe we will get a wider range again som6 day. On Tuesday we enjoyed the anhual dinner with the Johnsburg Tigers at Hettermann's. As usual, the meal was real tasty. Food was plentiful. And the party was sociable all the way. . The press was further represented by the George Sullivans of the Woodstock Sullivans (a town just east of Hartland in McHenry county). We are sure that George and his wife went home with favorable thoughts of Johnsburg hospitality. •'Put and Take" has been a booster of County League baseball for many years and expressed high hopes of the league gain-4 ^ jng strength through the advancement of the younger groups recently formed. The players showeu their high regard for Manager jW Frett by presenting him with/a golf bag and cart. For otx!e in. his life Joe was caught with his voice doj$m, but he soon recovered and calne through with choice remarks. Ships that pass in the night are headed for the seven seas or sailing for home. A bargain may be a useless remnant at a price you couldn't resist. Harold Bacon won a prize in a contest in Crystal Lake for baking an upside down cake. Investigation shows this cake baker to be the same "Zeke" who edited sports in McHenry twenty years ago. Goes to show that this sports writing has a future. It can lead you into most anything -- even dough. Basketball season opens Friday night when the McHenry Warriors travel to Marengo for the first game. Marengo isn't in the same conference, but for our part any game tWith a county team is interesting. It is always interesting to watch the first game and speculate on the future. Mark it down on your calendar that Barrington will be here next Wednesday night for the first Warrior home game and the conference opener. Last Saturday, Nov. 12, the "A" team of the rifle club met at the range. It proved to be a very eventful day. Several N.R.A. marksmanship qualifications were achieved. Bill Jensen won his marksman award. "Buzz" Jensen won his sharpshooter award. John Steinibach earned his pro-marksman award and Joe Sanford completed his pro-marksman and marksman awards. The highest score obtained since the club's beginning in November of 1954 was shot by "Buzz" Jensen. He fired 46 out of a possible 50 points. He held the previous record of 44 points. The Saturday after Thanksgiving the club will stage another club champion match, in which every member will fire four targets in the kneeling position and the highest score and best group Y^ill decide the position champion. Previous champions are Pat Buckie in standing and Bill Jensen in prone position. Tuesday Nqv. 22, there will be a hunter safety meeting and the club will draw up funds to be re-chartered with the National Rifle association for our second year. ( The last week in November the club is planning a Parents' night meeting in the McHenry high school. All members and parents will be requested to appear. We are planning several attractive displays of club equipment and materials. The meeting will be very important to parents. Members will participate in the displays. We would like to make a correction of the names of our administrative officers. Dennis Marshall is secretary and John Steinbach is treasurer.
