Services * Last, Sunday, the Community and Lutheran churches held their children's christmal services. The vesper service in the afternoon at the Community church was, well attended and the Christmas pageant Was presented beautifully. Mrs. E. Wittmayer directed the children's choir of about thirtyfive voices. They sang several Christinas carols and presented a background of music for the Christmas story as it unfolded with the twelve angels, high school girls, Mary arid Joseph, the shepherds and the wise men. The first, second and third graders sang a song, "O Come Little •Children." After the vesper service, some of the young people went caroling. The children's Christmas service at the Lutheran church was presented Sunday evening. The children of the church school presented the Christmas story to the congregation. A narrator, a speech choir, singing choir and the shepherds, wise • men, Mary and Joseph told the story of the first Christmas. The pre-school and primary children sang several songs and told a part of the story, too. All the freshly scrubbed faces and best clothes, plus the excitement of the kids, gave the program a very festive air. Both churches are decorated for Christmas with Christmas trees, poinsettia plants and other Christmas touches. Grade School The children of the grade school had their Christmas celebration last Friday, the last day of school. The sixth grade gave a version of the play "Scrooge and the Christmas Fairy" that was very well done. The third graders did. a • version of the play, too, and pfesented it very well. The second grade gave the "Night Be^e Christmas," which they certainly enjoyed doing. During a pajt of the mofnlng, all< the kids gathered in the hall and sang Christmas songs, with Mr. Stone directing and Virgine Schultz playing the piano. Everyone was in a gay m6od and sang with great gusto. Friday afternoon each room had its own Christmas parly with a gift exchange, refreshments and a visit from Santa Claus. Santa gave candy canes to all the children and in some of ttte roomsft took orders for Christmas gift! to be delivered Christmas Eye. All the small fry came hortie that afX^rnppn with shining eyas and bright, happy faces. High School The high school students had a Christmas celebration on Friday afternoon, too. They exchanged gifts and had a big, nicely decorated tree in the hall. They gathered to sing Christmas songs, too, and left for the holidays in a gay mood. Gardner. Each lady brought a sampling of her favorite Christmas cookies or candy and all of us enjoyed the great variety of food after the lesson. Rotary * What is the Key of Rotary? The answer is simple to those fkmiliar with machinery, in the boss of the Rotary wheel is a slot which t$kes a steel bar, or key way, and this keys the wheel to the shaft. Without sucn a key the wheel would rotate idly and produce no work or results. It seems to me that spiritually the Key of Rotary is the will to serve. Without this key a Rotarian or a club WfouljflTevolve in idleness and perform no w objective. Perhaps you would be Interested in knowing what Rotary stands for. Service above self in their motto, and the .fo':i'-way test is a good example of the way we should all think and act in all things we do. The four-way test can be applied profitably in relations with others in home, community, business, national and international life; particularly to proposed plans, policies, statements and advertising in business and the professions; to proposed legislation in government, to relations between teachers. and students in schools. The four-way test is; 1. Is it the Truth ? 2. is it fair to all concerned? 3. Will it build good will and better friendships? 4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned ? Tuesday was the annual stag party at Rotary. Wednesday vtfas the children's Christmas party sponsored by Rotary. Santa Claus was at thfe town hall and so were all the Kids. Elgin brought their best team to town as they always do when they play the Zephyrs.. The Richmond boys looked better in this game than any of their games, so far. The Zephyrs don't have much height this season, but they make it ujji on speed and accurate shooting. Six. foot eight Bob Peterson, former Illinois • center, was held to ten points by Dave Nichols and Ron May, but the big gun for Elgin was Jay Survant, a Lake Forest star who scored 19 points, and Zito for Elgin also was at thorn in the Zephyrs' side. H6 also scored 19 points. For the Zephyrs it "was Sonny Katzan-. berg with 25, points and at least^ six more direct assists for baskets. Jimmy Judson wasn't far behind with 20 points. The Rockets' jumped to an early lead on Huntley a!nd were never even pressed from the first minute on. Williams, the Huntley kingpin, was held to six field goals, way less than his average, but after all, most of his points had been scored against teams from the "Little Eight" and that is quite a weak conference. Nevertheless, he has a fine average., Httntl^y is leading the "Little Sigh&'CQjij^ ference at this writing albd tjj<i Rockets are in second place in the southern regional. the Rockets could have scoria way over 100 points on the Redskins if Coach Ned Morgensen so desired, but soon after the half he substituted freely and did try to hold the score down as much as possible. Loren Miller, a very, fine ball player, led the dockets wft$l thirty points and Bob Christensen followed with twenty. Terrific floor work by Terry Gunderson and Buddy Jarrett were the key to the fast break that the Rockets employed and top rebounding by Bob Miller kept the Rockets out in front all the way. Coach NOrm Patton's Frosh- Soph team lost their first game of the season by the score of 40 to 37, after leading once in the game by 10 points. Richmond (81) L. Millef* Gunderson B.
