Co-chairmen are Baibs Jorden and Don Jbhnson. About fifty students from McHenry Community high school will attend this convention. F.H.A. 4m'The local p.H.A. members have vffeen invited by Crystal Lake ®\H.A. to attend their February meeting at 8 p.m. Film slides will be shown on civil defense in the library on the second floor. The slides will be shown by Mr. Querhammer, a citizen of Crystal Lake who took pictures of the tests while he was in Yucca Flats, Utah. BAND AND ORCHESTRA On Sunday, Feb. 12, the select band, made up of 100 players who are the best from each of the' eight schools in the county, are goings to Woodstock to .practice their music -for the festival, which will be held on Monday, Feb. 13. On Monday, seventy-five members of our school will leave at 51 for Woodstock, to have a day •f practice before they give their concert at 8 in the evening. I The orchestra has been invited to play at the county Education meeting on March 9. Some of the local instrumental groups are to give a radio program on Wednesday, Feb. 29, at Waukegan. Prominent Pastor Speaks For Club The McHenry Woman's club will meet Friday, Feb. 10, at the Legion home1 at 2 o'clock, at which time Mrs. C. W. Goodell, program chairman, will present the Rev. A. E. McKenney. Rev. McKenney, who has been pastor at the First Baptist church in Elgin for thirteen years, will speak on "My Trip Through the Holy Lands." Last year the visiting pastor led the Illinois Baptists Ministers' council as president. He is also a former president of the Kiwanis club and has served on the family welfare board and on the civic welfare board of the Elgin Watch company. His activities have long included work for the Y.M.C.A. Last summer Rev. McKenney was a delegate to the World Alliance. of Baptists and visited Palestine and several European countries^ ^ The musical portion of the program of the next club meeting will be music by the high school string quartet and a piano solo by Patsy McCracken. The club Is busy planning for the novelty .social,, "Luncheon Is Served," on Feb. 21, which will be given at the Legion home at 1 o'clock.* McHenry - merchants are planning for the biggest Dollar Days ever held here Feb. 17-18. • NEW SUBURBAN CARS The Chicago and North Western railway has just placed its third purchase order for a fleet of sixteen double-deck suburban cars costing $2,320,000 and expects to have" a total of fortyeight of the streamlined, air* conditioned "Superbanites" in service by the end of this year. TAX DISBURSEMENT Under provision of the Municipal^ Retailers' Occupation .tax act, passed by the 69th General Assembly, disbursements of taxes paid by retailers on October, 1955, sales, were made in January. The amount totalled $3,143,- 814.37 of which McHenry received $3,754.77. Buy U.S. Sayings Bonds LINCOLN RECORDS fa One of the few existing records Of Abraham Lincoln's father, Thomas Lincoln, and other members of the family is now on exhibit in the Horner-Lincoln room of the state historical library at Springfield. It is -a deerskin- bound record book of the Little Pigeon Creek Baptist church in southern Indiana for fche years 1816-1840, and carries numerous entries about the Lin- ^oln family. Thomas Lincoln and nis wife, Sara Bush Lincoln, Abraham's stepmother, joined the Little Pigeon church June 7, 1623. Thomas became one of the church trustees and committee {members. This agefl chronicle of 'the spectral past shows the marks of time.
